re: Big 10, SEC, and Big 12 May Absorb the ACC Within the Month

I'm ok with UVa, but hoping our second team is UNC. While moving into Atlanta would be fun, I'm not sure the distance would work out over time for a non-power.

but once frank is gone VT will go back to being awful and in the SEC they would get crushed esp after opening up their recruiting grounds fully to the SEC
I think that there is a much bigger chance of VT going back to pre-Frank in the ACC instead of the SEC.
The one item that has held VT back for years were the best players in the state wanting to play in the SEC. Harvin, Mayo, Hand, etc..
I think VT in the SEC stops the bleeding.
In a perfect world for VT, they go to SEC, and UVa goes to the Big 10.

if they dont get the invite and the ACC implodes, where do you think you guys would land.

or the complete opposite and you open your back yard to the SEC, My friend coaches at Briar Woods 3 times in a row state champs and none of their guys go to VT. Their top recruit this year is going to be a gator. Top guy last year went to Stanford.

Any chance Rice ends up in the BigXII?
Posted on 1/20/13 at 8:50 am to molsusports
Someone please explain to me who the frick runs this site and why they are such a credible source?
I have a mouse in my pocket saying the members of the Pac 12 are abandoning their football programs to focus on competitive ballet, where's my undying credibility?

Pac 12: WashSt, Wash, OreSt, Ore, UCLA, USC, Stan, Cal, ArzSt, Arz, Col, Utah, Boise, Nev, BYU, UNLV?
not gonna happen. BYU would be the only one that possibly would have a shot but I think the Big 12 will go after them.
This is a tough spot for the pac 12 to be in because there's nobody out there worth adding. ND maybe??

Probably their best best - do a Northeastern pod and add some combo of Pitt, Syracuse, UConn, Boston College. I think it's feasible as a football-only addition, since these schools could group up with the Catholic schools that left the Big East for Olympic sports.

just like Texas A&M

they have many advantages VT doesn't.
Recruiting and playing at a better level of competition before joining the ACC for starters.

Obviously. But VT has resources and talent. If they hire a good coach to replace Beamer, there is no reason they can't remain a at least a competitive team.

issue is their talent is being poached the rest of the country has finally noticed how good VA HS football is. Their teams are getting progressively worse when faced vs equal or better talent.
They have been blessed that frank has been so faithful because when it comes down to it if a coach comes in and does a good job he will use them as a stepping stone.

But there is a lot of talent in Va. All it would take is for them to remain a good program is to hire a decent coach. SEC $$$$ could help them as well
As far as the stepping stone argument. Maybe, maybe not, since you haven't been paying attention, several coaches have been staying lately at jobs that in the past would be viewed as stepping stones (Boise, TCU, Ok St). So it would seem to depend on the coach, as 2nd tier programs are not able to offer great salaries without the pressure of fans thinking 10-3 is not acceptable.

This is where I'm confused:
The Big East, between 1998 (start of the BCS era) and 2003 had:
1 National Champion (Miami 2001)
3 Title Game appearances (Virginia Tech 1999, Miami 2001, 2002)
While the Big 12 had:
1 National Champion (Oklahoma 2000)
3 Title Game appearances (Oklahoma 2000, Nebraska 2001, Oklahoma 2003)
2 Heisman Trophy winners (Williams 1998, White 2003)
The Big 12 had the only two teams who failed to win their conference, made the national title game over more deserving teams, and LOST the title game, proving the critics correct.
If you ask me, it's about the same.

I think he meant A&M was playing a better level of competition before joining the SEC than VT is playing now.
However, your comparison makes absolutely no sense. Whether the Big East of Big XII was better in the late 90's early 2000's is not only inarguably the Big XII, it is irrelevant to the point anyway. Besides using just titles and BCS CG appearances is an extremely flawed way of measuring conference strength. Over the history of the BCS the Big XII is easily the #2 conference.

Yeah there is talent all up the coast. I'd love for the SEC to take its presence all the way to DC. Va tech could have a major resurgence if they hooked up with the SEC imo. I'm sure they'd love it.

SCH...I seen Frank as your man Nehlen...
You either get with the times or you get out the door.
The overhaul of the coaching staff on the offensive would never had happened under the old Frank regime..
He gets it now, as fans are restless...
As for where VT ends up, I am under the belief that the ACC is not nearly as weak as some people think.
UNC does not want to move as they run the ACC. They are really the lynch pin. If they stay, UVa stays. If UVa stays, all the others stay.
But I do agree with one thing. Old BE > current ACC.
The brand of football was much more tough.
