it doesn't. Sounds to me like he was just saying stuff to get reporters off his back.
ETA: The idea of adjusting your play call to account for the last :30 in the SB is just comical.

I think they wanted to use all 4 downs
That's what he should be saying

He's in full spin mode. At least Pete owned it and took the blame. Bevel is continuing to dig a bigger and bigger hole.

there is no defense for Bevell/Carroll on that call. none. there is no scenario where that is the right call to make.

Maybe say the whole world knew lynch was getting the ball.
Not sure that would even help.

It's dumb no matter how you spin it. Might make a little more sense if there was say 1:30 left. With just :30 left, you simply worry about getting the TD.

The pats could put 15 guys out there and Lynch would still score.

I don't think the idea of passing on 2nd and goalline is as crazy as everyone is making it out to be. I think calling a slant into the heart of the defense is no doubt dumb.

Hey Bevel, it doesn't make two shits how much time is on the clock. Your first priority here is to score the fricking TD. You're down by four points in the goddamn Super Bowl with less than a minute to play at the 1 yard line with a silent lunatic I'm the backfield that has a chainsaw for a cock and has his chompers set in Beast Mode ready to win the game for your dumbass. The worst thing that happens after you score is that you give the other team the ball back up by 3 with the best defense in the league hoping to stop them. The odds of them scoring a TD in less than 60 seconds is slim (although your unit did this in the first half), and worst case is they kick a field goal to force overtime.
You and Petie screwed the pooch here over thinking the clock and your responsibilities to you team, the people of Seattle, as well as the guy that writes your check. Own your clusterfrick and move on preparing for next season.

Throwing the ball in that situation isnt dumb. Throwing it in the middle of the field was dumb

I'm with you. I don't think running play action, rolling Wilson out, and throwing something low and to the outside would have been that bad of a decision. Running an inside slant is just mind blowing.

..Yes , there is ... God made them do it , it was God teaching Russell Wilson a lesson , cuz apparently Wilson didn't get the full lesson plan from when God made him throw 4 picks against Green Bay ( RW's own words) in order to show him God controls all things when Green Bay choked out serious brain farts and gave the Shawks the win ... Now this game , God almost got them to believing again with the "miracle" catch in final minute by Jerome Kearse , but dammit , God stepped in again and made RW throw that pick from the 2... Does God hate Seattle ? I dunno , you tell me Russell ... Too bad it aint Richard Sherman getting the lessons , he really the one who needs some divine humility instruction

Carroll followed it up saying they were going to run it in but not on that play???
So basically you were just running a play to waste 3 more seconds before running it in on the next play?? WTF???

I haven't watched many Seattle games, but it feels like I've seen them run that very PA rollout with a high degree of success in the few games I have watched.

This confusing logic from Bevell aside, here is what I don't understand about their series of events, if as Caroll said, the pass would stop the clock (if incomolwte) so they had two opportunities to run whatever play they wanted.
-They call timeout after the big catch with 1:06 left.
-They run Lynch. Presumably the play ends with about a minute (maybe a little less) left on the clock.
-The interception occurs with 20 seconds. It took them nearly 40 seconds to call and set up for that play. Couldn't they have ran a rushing play with like 35 to 40 seconds left?
If they scored, they are obviously winning. Even with one of the the GOAT QBs and great FG kicker, the likelihood of both getting in FG range against the defense in 30 seconds and hitting the FG is pretty low. Besides as great as Brady played, it was a methodical short passing game as his YPA as only 6.6 and his YPC was only 8.9. In addition, most of the passing success was in the middle of the field.
If they got stuffed, they would still have 30 seconds and a time out; that is plenty of time to get off two great plays.

Of course if the Seahawks score then its a brilliant play call, no?
