Similar careers. Trevino won 29 tournaments and 6 majors.

Phil has won 42 tournaments and 5 majors (with 6 2nd place finishes in the US Open.

In their prime?

Probably Trevino since he won the U.S. Open, Canadian Open, and the Open Championship consecutively. That's an incredible feat.

Phil's been better in his career though.

Crazy to even fathom, such a crucial stat when looking back on his career.

Phils better. Trevino was more mentally tough and clutch.

Trevinos difficulty at Augusta hurts his legacy.

Phil has 10 major runner-ups, with 6 being The US Open

Trevino won 5 of his 6 majors in a short time, like 4 years so that was more of a "run".

Phil has Won his Majors through his career (2004-2013)

i'd say phil, tho it must be known that trevino's career was severely damaged/hampered when he was struck by lightning in '76ish ... guy was completely self taught ... served in the military before turning pro ...

Funny story about Lee. He was working at a golf course in Texas, and word around those parts was the pro there was a stick. A popular pro at the time living in Texas heard this and went down there and take on this so called stick. Drives up to the course and the bag attendant came out and got the clubs out of the car for him and loaded it up on his cart. The guy walks in the club house and the guy behind the counter is the same guy who unloaded the bag. The pro ask him, who is the golf pro here? The guy behind the counter said, he's on the number one tee waiting on you. The pro puts his shoes on and when he arrives at the no. 1 tee, its the same guy, Lee Trevino.

Phil without a doubt.

His go-for it all style play cost several majors and many regular tournament wins.
