I know it’s happened in the nba finals a couple times (magic, cavs).

Thread inspired by this epic Suns choke job

Don’t think it would work again with age. NBA is weird these days. Seems like Big 3 era is long gone. Gotta have it all

Dumb comparison. Curry has a title since KD left.

The 1954 Indians went 111-43, the best record in the history of the AL, won the pennant by 8 games, and were swept by the NY Giants in the series.

2019 Lightning tied the record for most wins in a season at the time and were swept in the first round.

The 2001 lakers swept some notable teams, particularly the Spurs in the WCF.

1995 Red Wings? They won 62 games and put up 131 points and got swept in the Finals. They also had the greatest coach of all-time and ended up winning two championships in the next three years which made that sweep even more shocking looking back in retrospect.

Dr. J and Moses Malone swept the Lakers with Magic and Kareem in their prime. Moses was predicting, 4, 4, 4.

Didn’t the pistons sweep the Lakers in the finals with shaq and kobe the last year before they blew it up?

Lakers were swept in 1989, but I believe Magic was hurt .

This is the standard one that people pick but if you look at the two rosters there actually wasn’t 14 games’ difference between those squads. Plus Al Lopez of the Indians sold his soul to the devil in a way for that win record because he was so focused on burying Stengel and the Yankees he kept the hammer down to the very last game even though they were eight games ahead and didn’t give his players any kind of a breather and they went into the Series tired and beaten up while the Giants were at full strength.

It wasn’t a sweep but the 2001 Mariners who won 116 games getting beaten in five by the Yankees (who won 21 fewer games) in the ALCS has to be mentioned. Back story for that is the Mariners needed five games to beat the 91-win Indians in the division series … they actually got pounded 17-2 in one game … and their pitching just got ruined.

The Stanley cup finals had 4 straight years of sweeps. Very odd.
