Pippen was an incredible defensive player (as was MJ) and I think they held Kukoc scoreless in his first scrimmage to welcome him the the Bulls.
IIRC, they even made Daly let them guard Kucok in the Olympics too.

Could easily throw Jamal Crawford into this conversation

Yea the stores may be getting crossed up (although maybe it happened with the bulls too) but Pippen shut his A down in the olympics
quote:
"I wanted the whole world to see us go face to face," Pippen said. "I would have ordered [Krause] a big-screen TV."
"I was anxious before the game," Pippen said. "I wanted to shut him down and embarrass him. I can't put Krause out on the court. I shook [Kukoc's] hand before and after the game. There's no bad blood between us."
No? So what did Pippen prove?
"Now I guess [the Bulls] see he's not ready for NBA competition."

As to the OP question, you can argue most of those you listed were the best player on the team. My immediate thought was "who was the 2nd best player on the late 90s early 00s kings teams'. Mike Bibby
I don't know of a time where he was clearly the best player anywhere.

Jerry was the best player on those later Lakers teams, and he was regarded as such. Hell, he won the first Finals MVP in 1969 even though his team lost.

Has to be this. I thought Worthy but he was the best player on the 1992 Lakers after Magic retired.

Karl Malone.
I'll give Scotty one year, over 'Sheed in Portland. Its a coin flip, to be fair, but veteran leadership.
West doesn't count-- in '65-66, he was *clearly* better than Elgin. He was also better than Elgin or Wilt in '69-'70, as both were limited (Elgin 54 games, Wilt 12).

You don't think Pippen was the best on the Bulls when MJ was on sabbatical?

Do you consider Oakley better than McDaniel? McDaniel might be the answer or Shawn Kemp depending how you rank him and Payton.
