Trying to get into high school football a little more this year. What are usually the state's top districts?

In Texas, UIL District 11-6A features three dominant teams (Duncanville, DeSoto and Cedar Hill).

District 3-5A Division I features state powerhouses Aledo and Denton Ryan matched up in district play.

Another Denton school, Guyer, is in District 5-6A with the giant Allen school and fast-growing Prosper.

But the fun one is out of Central Texas. District 5-4A Division I features the defending 4A Division I state champion Stephenville, the defending 4A Division II state champion China Spring moving up in classification, and the always dangerous Waco La Vega team.

Thanks for the suggestions. I figured the best leagues were 5A, but in a couple other states I'm familiar with the best talent isn't always at the top level. In Washington basketball, 3A is usually better than 4A for example.

depends on where you are. the ebr and nola catholic league as named are great though. what part of the state are you in? cause sometimes the lower levels are better in certain parts.

Monroe area but my question was more about following online and reading articles than attending games, though I will do plenty of that as well.

Good luck; the local media's coverage of high school sports has waned significantly over the last decade.

The Monroe 3A district has to be in the conversation. Sterlington, Union Parish, and Richwood have all been in the Superdome in the last decade. Wossman and Carroll are always talented as well.

There is GREAT high school football all across the state

Side question:

What small, lesser known towns have great Friday night atmospheres??

I enjoy going on google earth and checking out the different venues around the state

I suppose it's not really a "lesser known" town, but I've always thought it was cool seeing St. James High School's football stadium situated smack dab in the middle of vast farmlands in Vacherie.

Central isn't in the same district as Zachary, Live Oak, Denham Springs, and Walker? Not sure why I thought those were all in a district together.

Because every paper got bought up by the same shitty company that runs the same articles on all the local papers websites instead of allowing the local paper to actually focus on local news that might draw readership.

The train track runs right by the field too. Really a hold on to your wallet and get out right after the game ends atmosphere down there.

this. the bigger schools like WM, Neville etc are good but the 3a up there is off the charts.

Wossmans new coach will do great things with them, great things.

Yep. The Advocate has ruined so much about local media.

in swla Jennings, Iowa and Westlake all have good atmospheres and when one of them is rolling, they can be great atmospheres, especially for the playoffs.

Amite, independence, st james are really good too.
