Ruston 1990 by a mile.

They outscored opponents 200-27 in the state playoffs. Best I ever saw.

Would pay some awkward money to watch '90 Ruston vs '98 West Monroe, and '73 Captain Shreve vs '75 St Augustine.

My dad's Jesuit team won it in '52. Beat Jimmy Taylor's team that year as well.

#17...

90 Ruston. I graduated in 90 so I can’t comment on playing that team but we did play 89 Ruston. We talked a lot of shite, high spirits, excited, then we saw those mammoths getting off the bus and nobody said shite the rest of the day. We got pummeled. The next year I believe they were #1 in the country in one poll and 2 in the other, iirc. 1990 Ruston made a mockery of the playoffs that year, just embarrassed everyone they played

Eta: I guess the semis against I think Baker wasn’t a complete embarrassment but pretty sure Ruston pulled starters and Baker got a TD or 2 late. Think it ended something like 38-14. Someone else may remember better.

2000 West Monroe gave up 14 points total in the playoffs. They beat 4A Runner up John Curtis, Mississippi 4A champs Clarksdale, Mississippi 5A champs Moss Point, and Texas 5A back to back to back champs Midland Lee with Cedric Benson 36-8.

1998 West Monroe was better than them. 90 Ruston, 98/00 WM, 99 Evangel are always the teams mentioned for best ever. Truth is all of them would have a lot of trouble stopping modern offenses with their 4-3 defenses. Wish we could somehow see all of those teams play each other.

Beat a very good Barbe team that had an epic comeback against West Monroe that year.

Worst defense to ever make it to the Dome in 5A by a mile. West Monroe RAN for over 500 yards against them in the semifinals. Really good 2 LSU players made a million plays on offense and special teams to get them to the Dome.

1998 WM is the only correct answer. Probably had over 25 D-1 scholarship players on that team.

I was at the game yet can’t remember who it was Ruston beat. Supposed that offense was the type of O Ruston had never faced and was going to light them up. Pretty sure had Warwick Dunn, sorry bout the spelling. Ruston destroyed them, bad enough don’t remember who it was I just remember all the talk about this great south La O was something Ruston hasn’t faced before

I will say that 99 evangel team I’d pay good money to somehow watch 98 WM or 90 Ruston play

I want to say of the 22 starters, 17 signed D1. Obviously most of the 2000 starters were freshmen/sophomores on that 98 team as well.

Watched them go toe to toe in jamboree at Tech in 98. 14-14 tie. The only thing that makes me think 98 WM beats 99 Evangel is the Dome game. Evangel won in 99, their first year in 5A, 20-14. NO ONE thinks 99 WM was in the same stratosphere as 98 WM. Then you have WM losing their best player in the semifinals at Ruston in Tramissian Davis. I miss those days of great football being played weekly. Wish we could see it return.

West Monroe early 2000's

Nothing fancy. Played as a unit. You got hit every single play if you were on offense.

Disciplined.

Their special teams were also incredibly good.

I wanted to say over 30 but figured I’d get called out on that.

What separated 98 WM and the rest of WM's teams is Marcus Turner. 4.3 WR with 1300 receiving yards. 5A Offensive MVP that year.
