On talent alone and disregarding stats, you have to have Will Clark somewhere on that shortlist.
Nah! He wasn't very popular among his peers and among sportswriters. He deserves his non HOF status.

I agree, but baseball has always been pretty clear that you cannot bet on baseball and that if you bet on baseball you are permanently banned. Baseball players are reminded about it from Rookie Leagues on up at every level. Baseball clubhouses in fact have a sign reminding baseball players about it. Pete Rose from the time he first set foot on a professional baseball clubhouse saw it and knew about it.

Not necessarily the best but Dale Murphy. If he played for any major market team he’d already be in the HOF
I love Murph but that's doubtful - see Don Mattingly. Both had amazing MVP-calibre primes and were popular in and out of the clubhouse but they just didn't sustain great play for a long enough time period.

As far as stats go he benefited from being thrown out right about when his decline started so his per year numbers probably look better than they would if he had played out his career, kind of like if Pujols had quit 5 years ago

I was always a huge Dave Parker fan growing up. He has stellar numbers and all the big accomplishments (rings, all star games, MVPs, batting titles and gold gloves). But he had a drug problem that people hold against him. He'll probably be in soon on vets exception. But guy was a monster in dead ball era. Plus he knocked the cover off a ball once..

How isn’t this a unanimous Pete Rose thread

You can't ask the question, then exclude players who aren't in. Bonds is a top 5 player of all time.

banned? Joe Jackson & Pete Rose
Other than that..Fred McGriff comes to mind..Don Mattingly

Stupid thread
Manny Ramirez Mark McGwire Sammy Sosa Curt Schilling and Pete Rose were far superior baseball players than Juan Gonzalez
