Does no good if the opponent can't play and cancels/postpones

I am shocked that FBS schools aren't putting temporary controls on player interaction over the next 2 months or so.

Can you imagine calling your boss and saying with a straight face, "I was in the general vicinity of someone who might get sick so I'm going to need the next 2 weeks off work - with pay. K, thanks."

Hard to do this with the contact tracing and quarantining until almost all of the players have it.

I'm trying to find the big 12 guidelines but what I can find so far, no mention of contact tracing. Just says you need at least 53 healthy players and also a minimum number of players for certain positions.

The position group requirement is stupid. These are all football players. Put a walk-on in or move someone from another position.

Virtually every lineman played offense and defense at some point in high school. Probably every skill player played DB/RB/WR. Probably half the skill players played QB at some point.

Play the fricking games.

You have to contact trace and quarantine by the city/state guidelines. Doesn’t have anything to do with the Big 12.

Not saying I agree with the restrictions but if 1 or 2 linemen get it, how do you get around the tracing for the other linemen? They are closely around each other all the time.

Per big 12 guidelines that I am reading, if you fall below those position thresholds, you can still play if you choose to do so.

After going 0-3 vs the Sun Belt I'm surprised the Big 12 didn't just go ahead and cancel all their OOC games.

do you have a link to something that lays this out? What I find on the Texas health site states that you have to quarantine after contact tracing, but has a provision in there for testing.

You don't get around it. You isolate the guys that tested positive and you test the other guys after exposure a couple of times.

My main problem is that this thing does not seem fully transparent. Have rules laid out for everyone to see so that when something does happen, we can follow along.

From the CDC they have to quarantine 14 days from last exposure to a positive contact. Going get yourself tested and testing negative a couple of times doesn’t get you out of that requirement.

Wow, I did not realize that.
That seems very unreasonable. They must not be confident in the testing.

And as I post that, I go look for a bit more info and see this headline from today

quote:

CDC reverses controversial testing guidance.

the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now recommending that all people who have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 should get tested, even if they aren't showing symptoms.
?

What a shite show

After seeing all these postponed games, the big ten won't make the playoffs. They won't get a season in . Starting on October 24th with no bye weeks . Rutgers will cancel some games for opponents too. At least the big 12 and ACC were smart starting early in the season so they can make up games

Yeah I'm not sure how these teams are going to pull it off.
Essentially one player test positive and his whole position group can't play for two weeks. That is just nuts.
