Ted Williams had 1703 more walks than strikeouts. Yea, yea, give me all your intentional walk opinions, that is downright sick.

Top 5, maybe even top 3 hitter of all time.

Bonds
Williams
Mays
Ruth
Aaron

In no particular order. May be controversial, but I think if Trout can have a few more injury free seasons, he can work his way up there too. His numbers really are remarkable.

And he’s no lower than this. The only hitters with a legitimate case of being better hitters are Bonds and Ruth.

What are you smoking? If Williams didn't miss 5 legitimately PRIME years due to the war and injury he'd hold every major record there is to hold

Homeruns
BA
RBIs
etc

As a pure hitter, he's probably #1 all time

The clear Top 5 all around hitters of all time are (in no order)

Ted Williams
Lou Gehrig
Babe Ruth
Barry Bonds
Stan Musial

You can’t deny guys like Bonds, who you hate, and Ruth because he played in a different era. I agree Williams has a legit claim to GOAT, but I’m not discounting the others. It’s difficult to compare players from different eras, even with stats like WAR.

If we talking straight up hitters, Gwynn is definitely top 5. Sluggers I agree he is not.

If we talking about just hitting the baseball. Pete rose is the best of all time because he has the most hits of all time.

Ruth is #1
Then Bonds and Williams
Then Gehrig and Hornsby

Henry Aaron hit a lot of bombs, but he wasn't in a class with the best of the best all around.

If you took away all his home runs, he would still be a member of the 3000 hit club.

The disrespect to Pujols in this thread is pretty incredible. His first 10 seasons in the league are unmatched.

Still one of the best stats: 1,815 hits at home and 1,815 on the road

I love Tony Gwynn, but he isn’t even close to a top 5 hitter of all time. You simply can’t take him over any number of guys that hit for power with average.

And for as wonderful as Tony Gwynn is, poor Rod Carew seems largely forgotten. But Carew and Gwynn are pretty remarkable historical offensive comps:

Gwynn
PA: 10,232
H: 3,141
Runs: 1,383
HR: 135
RBI: 1,138
SB: 319
BA: .338
OBP: .388
SLG: .459
Batting Titles: 8

Carew
PA: 10,550
H: 3,053
Runs: 1,424
HR: 92
RBI: 1,015
SB: 353
BA: .328
OBP: .393
SLG: .429
Batting Titles: 7

Ted Williams missed a few years because of the war right? And he still had amazing stats. He has to be up there as the greatest hitter that ever played the game.
