This is why I'm floored that there are people defending anyone in this situation, including Paterno. To believe the higher ups were totally oblivious to all of this is asinine. People turned a blind a eye. You know of a situation in 1998, then you here of another situation in 2002, and you still don't feel the need to report it to the police? Inexcusable. That wasn't a mistake, that was deliberate. There's no hindsight with that. That's another bullshite argument by the apologists. This wasn't a player smoking weed in the lockeroom, this was a 60 year old man sodomizing a young boy.
It all boils down to a bunch of worthless human beings putting a football program over the lives of dozens of young children. They all knew that if any of it got out, it would kill the program, so they covered it up. fricking pathetic all around. Everyone who had any knowledge of it should be prosecuted.

Furthermore, inasmuch as Joe Paterno was top dog on campus until yesterday it's almost certain that HE personally instructed everyone to keep quiet. It's more than certain that he allowed a known pedophile access to facilities he controlled and allowed Sandusky to use the prestige of Penn State to empower his activities.

NO it isn;t that simple, there's no way an 84 year old could pull that off. Paterno might not have known, but those 'protecting' him had to.

Might not have known what? He certainly knew about 1998 & 2002. He wasn't 84 back then.

If he knew they all had to know
AD- Tim Curley- placed on leave
Head Coach- Joe Paterno fired
DC- interim HC Tom Bradley Penn State '78 (1979)
OC- Galen Hall Penn State '63 (2004)
QB- Jay Paterno Penn State '90 (1999)
WR- Mike McQueary Penn State '97 (2003)
OL- Dick Anderson Penn State '63 (1999)
DL- Larry Johnson ElizabethCity '73 (1999)

I agree. There's no way that after the incident in 1998, everyone wasn't privy. They're all culpable, not just Paterno. Switzer is dead on, IMO.

I would bet that everybody on that list heard at least rumors, but we know that Paterno heard much more than that... an actual eyewitness account. His defense that McQuery's report to him was "vague" is absolute bullshite. What person when hearing such a thing about his friend would not have prompted the eyewitness to be more specific?
Paterno was so enamored of himself and his quest for football immortality that he couldn't even let the rape of a child get in the way. He's scum.

No way that remains a secret to the authorities and to the public unless the coverup was commanded by the strongest man on campus... Joe Paterno.

Let's face it, grown men can be/are just as bad as women with gossip, scoop, "Hey did you hear" type of shite. It's beyond naive to think this was kept under wraps. People knew....

I'm glad these guys are calling Joe out

a whole lot of that is going aroud over this and the lengths these people would go to cover it up.
Pennsylvania state rep.... Rep. Kevin Boyle: "This was a deliberate plot...this was a conspiracy that went on for well over a decade"

What floors me is the fact that joe paterno knew about the grand jury. Anyone with half a brain would have retired last year before all of this came out. Did he honestly think it would all just blow over? They all deserve to burn for it.

I think Paterno and Sandusky are both either narcissists or incredibly stupid. Probably both.

My thing is, if you're going to clean house, then CLEAN HOUSE.
Bradley basically stood up for Paterno as will most of the other coaches, but if you're going to fire Paterno how can you not completely clear house on the entire staff?
It's crucifixion (sp?) to me.

You wanted an excuse to oust him (JoePa), here it is.
If anyone high up and with longevity on this staff is still around next season...

They really have no where to go at this moment, you can't hire a new head coach and a whole new coaching staff mid season without staying in house. It's either THIS, or cancel the season. right now I'm not sure that cancelling the season (and hiring a completely brand new AD, Head coach, and staff) wouldn't be the best choice.

Good God, you are one dumb motherfricker. As disgusting as this whole situation is, the lynch mob mentality from you simpletons is even worse. As bad as Paterno's inaction was, there is no evidence to support a single word of your ignorant statement.

Thanks for the breakdown. I am sure your point was the length of time each staff member had been at Penn State. But I was blow away by the number of alumni on the staff. Not trying to flame, but that is on the edge of an inbred cult. No wonder this was covered up so long.

Totally agree again.
I have loved JoPa all my life - thought he was the epitome of class and good sportsmanship.
Now - he is dead to me. What he allowed to happen, for whatever reason, is completely unacceptable.
The entire administrative chain of command has to be excised.
