It might be fun for vistors coming in once a year, but as far as Atlanta residents go,you have to understand the demographics. We're not like New Orleans where people embrace the downtown environment. The footprint of "Atlanta" is enormous and extends 40 miles north. The fans that will spend the money to come to the games are "Atlanta" residents but don't live in the city limits. The same thought goes for Turner Field...it's in a shite location that no one wants to go. We love Atlanta, but we love the suburbs of Atlanta where we don't have to worry about getting mugged, shot, raped or murdered.

I guess the question then is would you rather ensure 100% full crowds for the falcons or attract more big events like the final 4 etc?

I wish more cities would renovate what they have like New Orleans did. The Georgia Dome is in a perfect location with hotels, CNN Center, Philips Arena, GWCC, and two MARTA stops. They are also continuing to attract events like the Final Four next year. There is no reason to spend a billion dollars to build something new.

agreed , its in an awesome location. Seems like for the money you could renovate it quite nicely for much cheaper and have a lot more left over for other projects....like getting rid of the supposed ghetto

Don't get me wrong, they're gonna build it in downtown Atlanta...they've already got a site for it. One endzone will have a huge glass wall that overlooks the Atlanta skyline. I just think it would be a better fan experience to build it on the north side of the city where everyone that has money lives.

Agreed. If they could find some space up in Buckhead, Doraville, or Sandy Springs to build a sports arena, it would be a hell of a lot easier to fill it up.

I fricking hate the burbs and I have never once been in fear for my safety while living about as far inside the perimeter as one can get. Atlanta is no different than most major cities. Just be smart about where you go, when you go, and how you get there and you don't have that much to worry about.

OTP is lame. Will they sell the stadium rights to Applebees or Olive Garden?

I sense that you have no appreciation for culture and history. I've been to MANY American cities... New Orleans is quite easily in the top three of most interesting and exciting places to visit.... Atlanta, on the other hand, is waaaaaaaaaaaay down the list.

It amazes me how anybody in the world would love SUBURBS????

Atlanta is a nightmare whose downtown should strive to be more like New Orleans.

There is a reason why Downtown New Orleans including the Warehouse District, CBD, and the Quarter has the lowest amount of violent crime (not much) in the city. THERE ARE PEOPLE EVERYWHERE 24/7. I'd love to live in the Warehouse District.

This is clearly just a suburban vs urban thing. If you think NOLA is all ghetto, you've clearly never seen all of it and don't know what you are talking about. It sure as hell is better than Atlanta from what I've seen. Not to bash Atlanta though, I've only been there a handful of times, but there were parts of downtown that were fine.

And am I the only one that thinks retractable roofs have been a huge waste of money for the most part? It seems the vast majority of the time they are usually closed even when the weather is fantastic.

Seems to me nola folks are jelly. Atlanta is a bigger city with more money, companies/job opportunities, people and less crime/corruption. When Benson wanted a stadium built most residents in the state of LA were all about it. Get over it, Atlanta is a world renowned city despite what others say.

It's a pain in the arse driving all the way to the ghetto of Atlanta to watch a Falcons game when 90% of Falcon fans live outside the perimeter.

trust me you don't want that.

The skins stadium is outside the city and we all wish it was back in DC, then again we have a real fan base and it sounds like you are making excuses for falcon fans being so fickle

NGT, is good people man. He and I both live in the burbs. I work in Duluth, what the hell would be the point in me living in Buckhead only to drive all the way out to Duluth. I was born and raised OTP and laugh at people that think they are better than me because they live ITP. Just because I chose to live OTP doesnt mean I dont have money. Its a choice. If I want a good steak I have the ability to drive to ATL or to Athens. They make things called cars theyre fanastic.
