Hey AA you grabbed the wrong Angels pitcher (Ohtani)
You're high if you thought the Angels were ever in the dealing Ohtani business.
In AA we trust.

For a guy who seems so good at getting value elsewhere AA sure does love overpaying for solid-but-not-elite relievers

They’ve told us who they are at this point. We are a top 5 or at least top 5-ish team in MLB and firmly in our window, I don’t buy that it’s just AA wanting to hold prospects (from a system that’s not even that good anymore) at this point. There’s really no reason we couldn’t have gotten Thor, Drury, or Merrifield if we really had the salary room for it. Merrifield has a really affordable contract as well.
I don't think it has anything to do w/money. The Braves have plenty of that.
It is prospect capital, or the lack thereof in this case for the Braves and not wanting to completely gut the system.
The Braves will be a top-5/6 payroll team by as early as next year when they should break the $200 MIL threshold.

Hate to break it to you, but the system has already been gutted.
We have 1 top 100 prospect, and he's #100.
Now, we do have some guys down the line that can break into the list like Shuster, Dodd and Schwellenbach, but guys like Shewmake, Elder and Tarnok are all currently in our top 6 and likely won't ever see significant time in Atlanta.

I had hopes for Tarnok after he lit up the second half of last season but he was always a very raw project. I'm guessing by this time next season, he'll either be on the big league roster or will be out of the organization.

Which goes back to my point that we don't have the prospect capital to land Thor, Drury, or any other known commodity

Assuming we go Fried, Wright, Morton (which is what Bowman said they are leaning towards)
Going back to this, it would be a colossal mistake to pick Morton over Strider if Strider doesn't show any slowing down by season's end.
I get it, a 100mph fastball with a slider plays well out of the pen, but for the sake of the argument, lets say we're in a winner-take-all game 3 against San Diego in the wild card series, who would you want starting that game?

The Padres didn't give up any prospect capital for Drury.
Their farm is about on par with ours.

You go your best 3 starters in the playoffs. Strider is clearly in that 3 IMO. Morton might end up just being long relief/insurance in the playoffs

Welp. Is what it is now. Let’s go out and take these two then 4/5 from Mets and ride.

This, and the highest ranked prospect the blue jays gave up was like 15th I think. Their system has graduated most of its big players in the majors like we have

Whether you like the moves we made or not, we have to cut down on our whiff rate. We are dead fricking last.
We also have three pitchers who need to drastically reduce their pitch counts. Morton is a lost cause. Minter and Jansen need to find control in loaded counts. High and away on full counts is pissing me off.

We turned Sean Newcomb and a guy we got in the 19th round in 2016 for one of the best closers in the American League.

Obviously striking out less would be ideal, but I also don’t want to mess with the aggression in what has been one of the best offenses in baseball. Gotta walk a fine line.

Wow. Alec Bohm looked as hopeless on that swing as any I've seen in awhile. Holy hell that slider was disgusting.

AA saying we “don’t believe in innings limits”.
