Needless to say, they’ve passed us up in the NL pecking order today

Just because they got some players doesn't mean they passed us up. They needed a lot more help than us. We had a much deeper lineup, even with Acuna's struggles. Now they have perhaps evened that out, but I don't think they're better than us. And the deadline hasn't passed yet. The Braves will do something here soon.

They didn't just "get some players", they revamped their entire offense.

The Padres gave up their #6 prospect for Drury, a freaking super-utility player having a career year. Holy Christ!

Preller is pushing all of his chips to the center of the table, but it's also pretty obvious that he's GM'ing for his job.

Drury this season has a better OPS (.855) than everyone on our roster not name Riley and Contreras who still doesn't have enough AB's to qualify.

Not to mention, they added Soto (.894) and Bell (.877).

With those three additions, they now have 4 guys with an OPS above .850 and three above .870, which doesn't include Tatis coming back.

And offense that wasn't very good, sans a a couple of guys. This doesn't just catapult them over us, in my view. Maybe in the short term, but when both teams are fully healthy, I don't an advantage for the Padres. I see an advantage for us on the mound, however.

It most definitely does.

Again, look at the OPS's they just added. This isn't an opinion.

I'm not really high on Drury, as his career arc would suggest he is playing well over his head, and leaving the Great American Launchpad will not do him any favors.

But if he could be had for that little, I'm not sure why we didn't make a play.

Could've easily moved Shewmake or Tavarez for Drury if the Reds wanted SS prospects. Especially since we have the Grissom insurance.

All good points, but still the #6 prospect for Drury is steep.

And I agree w/Meta, we still have the advantage in pitching.

This is either gonna work out w/a World Series title for San Diego or it is gonna bomb w/them losing in the first round and Preller and everyone gets fired. There is no middle ground.

You're basing your argument off of that? You kind of ignored what I said about when both offenses are fully healthy, and I might add to that, when they are at full operating capacity.

Because neither Acuna, nor Ozzie before the injury, have performed anywhere near their career marks. At some point the light will come on with those guys (when healthy). There's a reason I said the Padres might have a better lineup for now. I'm looking ahead, we have guys that can produce throughout the lineup. That isn't an opinion, either.

That pitching gets nullified a bit in a three game wild card series against Musgrove and Darvish.

That's all I care about.

Yeah, I'm basing my argument off of relevant recent data... you should join me.

They have the better lineup this season and that's all that matters right now.

That's not even remotely debatable.

In other news, Riley is having a presser at 6:05.

Musgrove is coming back to Earth lately, and I'll take Fried and Wright against either of them.

What I really like is our ability to "shorten" games, as they say, with our 'pen vs. what the Padres have.

It's not going to be easy. It never is in the playoffs. But if we could beat the Dodgers with last year's roster, I feel pretty good about what this group can do.

You know there is something called recency bias, right? Do you just assume that because established players are struggling, that they won't come out of it? And do you also assume that a not so established player like Drury will keep up the pace, especially after leaving that hitters' paradise?

I know you think it's scientific to just look at numbers, but without a track record to back up recent events, it's kind of a shallow way of thinking.

No, but you can't assume the other side of it either.

Rather, if you do assume the other side, it's just as relevant as someone assuming the opposite.

I'll stick with the numbers for this season when I'm arguing something strictly on this season.

Mets may not be done.

I'd take Fried over Darvish and Musgrove vs.Wright is at worst a push.

If a Braves player improves, they’ve just “leveled up”. If another teams player improves, they are a regression candidate, duh
