The extensions will be very beneficial on the back half when it comes to navigating the luxury tax. Makes things more difficult this year and next but we will be paying Harris, Strider, Riley, etc. considerably more than their luxury tax hits once we reach 2024, 2025, etc.
It was very creative if the luxury tax is going to be in play.

I would think if we extend Fried and sign Dansby, or Turner/Correa, it will be in play

I don't think Fried is getting extended. Can't extend everyone and AA has not shown a willingness to give big, long term deals to veteran pitchers.

It would be incredibly dumb not to extend a left handed Cy Young caliber pitcher at 29/30 years old if we have the money to do it.

This would be a friable offense IMO

Disagree.
Dimino is a good dude, he is just very verbose in his questioning and it comes off as being douchey but he's really not

You believe he is verbose and douchey but somehow disagree. Makes sense.

What I mean is that he is not doing it on purpose(which would be being a douche), that's just who he is. Doesn't make him a douche for asking wordy questions.
I disagree that he's being douchey.

You can't let an ace pitcher go in his prime. They don't grow on trees.

Fried is really good, but there is still a pretty big risk in investing $150Mish in a pitcher long term just because of the injury risk.
This isn't an anti-Max thing by any stretch of the imagination, either. I really like him and I don't hold his start against the Phillies when he was sick/weak or his two starts in the playoffs last year when he was tipping pitches against him. Based on a few years of observation, this is simply how I think AA is going to operate as long as there are pitching prospects they like in the pipeline like Jared Shuster or Spencer Schwellenbach.
ETA: The other part of this is, while all of the extensions look like awesome bargains on paper (because they are), there is still some inherent risk in carrying that many guys on the payroll long term. Odds are, one of these will backfire due to long term injury problems, underperformance, or something else.

I'm guessing they think Strider can be an ace.

Fried will probably get an offer of at least $175 million to go home to socal. When that happens we should thank him for his service and wish him all the best against any other team he faces. Some people seem to forget that the nats are probably going to spend five years in the cellar because they extended two aces who immediately fell apart.

I'm in this boat as well and I think it'll be the Angels who do it. He also probably knows that.

If it's gonna be that much then I'd be ok w/letting him walk.

In fairness, Strasburg already had injury issues when the Nats gave him that contract so that's on them. Fried has never had chronic injury issues.

Choking isn't an injury?
I kid.
Kind of.

I'm in that line of thinking, also. He has the stuff and the mentality.

Corbin is the bigger cautionary tale than Strasburg, IMO.

Strider takes home sporting news rookie of the year.

Wonder how close the vote was between him and Money Mike?
Congrats to Strider.
Congrats to Strider.
