I thought we’ve been told in this thread that we had holes at DH, LF, and SS which is why we should have offered a huge contract to Dansby?

It’s amazing how time shows emotional responses to be foolish. The Braves may or may not win the World Series but they won’t win it or lose it because of Dansby “Mr. Cub” Swanson.

We do, and we’re all hoping against hope that one of the scrubs we’re about to throw out there brings us literally any value at all.

Literally no one is saying this.

Any rational Braves fan who is paying attention is still very concerned about those 3 positions, and rightly so. One might even posit that the more emotional position is the one telling everyone that everything is perfectly fine.

Never said everything is fine. But show me any team without question marks. We lost Dansby. The Mets lost Diaz. Phillies lost Hoskins. Dodgers lost Turner. Astros lost Altuve. Every team has issues. But some of y’all act like the Braves are flawed because we don’t have an All Star at every position. Dansby was not worth the money he demanded so he went to a team that thinks he is worth it. Good for him and not bad for the Braves.

I mean, as things stand right now, we do have holes there. One good spring for Rosario and reports that Ozuna has better arm strength doesn't mean anything until it plays out on the field in the regular season.

This feels like an emotional response.

Predictions for 2023

- Arcia does not make it to the all star break as the starting SS
- Ian Anderson does not make an appearance in the majors
- Nick Anderson is a key in the bullpen
- Jesse Chavez’s Braves magic runs out
- We get better production from LF than we do 2B
- Shuster sticks
- AJ Minter signs an extension mid season
- Braves do not exercise their 2024 club option on Morton
- Kyle Wright has mild regression
- Braves have 2 35/35 players in Acuna/Harris
- We bargain shop at the deadline again

Edit: I meant guarantees, not predictions

Ooh this is fun

I think this only happens if we have other offensive holes in the lineup. If Rosario and Ozuna aren't total assholes at the plate, we can get away with having a defensive only SS, especially when you factor in that the other premium defense position (CF) should be a productive bat for us as well.

Also, Grissom just isn't ready to play short and I'm not sure he will be ready to play it this year... or ever. Doesn't mean he doesn't have a place on this team, it's just probably going to be as a LF or utility infielder.

quote:

- Ian Anderson does not make an appearance in the majors

Meh, Bryse Wilson is in the majors, Ian will get another shot in the majors. Maybe not with us though.

quote:

- Nick Anderson is a key in the bullpen

He's been solid this spring. Wouldn't hate it.

quote:

- Jesse Chavez’s Braves magic runs out

Still a better innings eater than Josh Tomlin.

quote:

- We get better production from LF than we do 2B

Not sure I buy this one. I think people still severely underrate a healthy Ozzie. I trust him in a spot more than I do Eddie or Ozuna right now.

quote:

- Shuster sticks

I think he will be a solid 3 or 4 pitcher in our rotation for the forseeable future. But I do wonder how Soroka factors into this once he is stretched out. I was cautiously optimistic with what I saw from him the other day.

quote:

- AJ Minter signs an extension mid season

I really have no idea how AA values relievers.

quote:

- Braves do not exercise their 2024 club option on Morton

It was dumb enough that we're paying him what we are this season.

quote:

- Kyle Wright has mild regression

Agreed. I don't think he is THAT great and I think the no-shift is really going to frick with him this season.

quote:

- Braves have 2 35/35 players in Acuna/Harris

I don't think Acuna gets 35 steals, but I do think he gets 40 homers. Harris will be 30/40 at least.

Adam Duvall comes back again?

I think Harris will regress a good bit offensively.

Not hoping for it obviously but there are a few warning signs.

Still a top 10 type CF imo but not sure he is a 7 WAR 30/30 type guy over 162.

I think Ozzie settles into what he always has been when healthy. Very very valuable but flawed and will frustrate some people.

My prediction is Acuña, Olson, Murphy are top 3 in WAR among position players. Just edging out Riley and Harris.

In terms of only OPS there is a possibility of this I suppose, but there almost zero chance LF outperforms Ozzie in terms of pure WAR. Eddie's best year in his career (2018) is about the same as an average Ozzie year.

The rest of your predictions wouldn't surprise me or seem likely.

Yeah I don't agree w/this at all.

The rest of your predictions I can see coming to fruition.

He's not gonna win 21 games again but he is at worst gonna be a very good #3 IMO.

Probably been covered but what's the best way to watch the braves this year for someone who only has YouTube TV?

Bally app?

Bally app won't work- they don't have the Braves on the paid version of the app. The only way Bally app works is if you have the local bally channels on your TV lineup and can sign in with your provider creds. You're kinda screwed unless you change over to something like Fubo to get Bally. Unless you're out of market and then you can to MLB tv.

Thanks for the info.

I use an IPTV service. Finally got tired of constantly being jerked around by these garbage arse streaming companies who continue to raise prices but not improve their product.

Don't forget today is tree mlb.tv subscriptions if you have or know someone who has T-Mobile. T-mobile subreddit also has people giving/selling codes.

Mlb.tv will work if you get a cheap VPN. I used nordvpn last year with success to watch all the Braves games in market.

Are the VPNs pretty easy to use? They can be used through a smart tv?

Super easy to use on your phone for sure. If you want to use it with your home internet you would need to setup the router to use the VPN. Not super difficult but would require a little research and knowledge of the router.
