It’s literally 2 starts. “2 seasons”
ZERO pitchers in the National League have a better ERA than Fried over the past 4 seasons.

Welcome back to the AL West

I feel bad for Ozzie. Wash was basically his dad.

Good for Wash. Good luck in Anaheim.
This is his last bite at the apple.

Fried was good in October of 2021
Fried has been a Cy Young caliber pitcher the last 3 full years he's pitched(I'm counting '20), '21 and '22. He was top-3 in Cy Young voting in '22 IIRC.
You guys underselling just how good he's been here are coming off as ignorant. He's a bonafide ace.

Ok, I'll play... what pitcher could we realistically bring in that is better than Fried?

Regular season stud like the rest of the roster

I'm not underselling anything. Hes thrown a combined 7-ish innings in the playoffs in two starts the last two years. He had over a 4 ERA (yes I know, bad stat) even in the 2021 run and went 2-2.
So let me ask you this since you have probably said the phrase "Trust AA" more than any person in human history... its obvious we are planning on letting Fried walk. With him being as good as he has been (minus the playoffs) and not being THAT old.... why?

I think we should extend Fried.
I was really only saying that RunningJacket isn't wrong that Fried hasn't been some super stud in the playoffs, because he hasn't been.
If we are under the assumption that we AREN'T extending Fried, then I do think you maybe trade him. Problem there is you need assets to help you now during this window, and no one who would trade for Fried is going to give you anything to make you better right now than just keeping Fried does.

Because we don't give out big contracts to guys over 26 and Fried is due a big contract.
Has zero to do with how good someone is, considering in the last two years we let an MVP walk and a gold glove SS walk.

Matt Olson?

Special circumstance after we let the MVP walk.
I'll amend it to "for the most part", we don't give out big contracts to guys over 26 "when it comes to competing against the open market for players who played for us"

Behind only Strider, Burnes and Wheeler in FIP. 41-15 record. I mean what are we looking for here? He’s probably the best left handed starter in the game.
Because he’s had 7 bad postseason innings since clinching the WS 24 months ago he has to go to make room for Bryce Elder and Emerson Hancock or whoever we would get in a trade. I mean what in the world

B/c the Braves have an orginazational philosophy of not giving high AAV/long year(more than 5) contracts to guys over 30. And giving a big contract to a pitcher over 30 is always playing w/fire, even w/someone who has been pretty healthy(Blisters aside) in Max.
I tend to agree w/VADawg from last night, his thoughts is that Max wants to go somewhere where it's drier(West Coast) and his blisters won't be as susectible to flare up. The thought makes sense.
But to undersell Max and his accomplishments is just ridiculous.

Jeff douchebag Schultz apparently had a column in the Athletic either today or yesterday that the Braves should consider trading Ozzie just to "shake things up."
Jesus.

Easy to do this when you have a stacked farm that you can use to directly replace the departing, or use for a trade to replace the departing.
Things change though when the cupboard dries up and we got a glimpse at that with replacing a gold glove SS with a utility guy.
Philosophies will have to evolve to keep up.

I’ve never said Fried isn’t a solid pitcher. And there is no pitcher we could get better than Fried. That isn’t at all what we are talking about.
We are talking about either signing him to a long term 150plus million dollar deal or trading him. No where are we comparing him to others. You guys are freaking out because you are worried about how we will replace him. I’m worried about hamstringing the team budget on a guy who doesn’t deliver when 100million dollar players should. We should trade him to get whatever long term value we can get in the organization.
And none of you can say with a straight face that giving Fried the ball in game 1 next October gives you confidence. That’s why we shouldn’t pay him and hamstring the the entire organization.
As for the blister, does Fried not have a calendar? Is he a rookie who doesn’t know how to properly prepare his body? Every pitcher knows blisters are a game changer which is why they callous up. That Fried allowed this to derail the entire teams season is inexcusable. If a position player had this happen and couldn’t perform he would be vilified - and rightly so. But with a pitcher we just let it go and act as if it’s just a random fluke. It’s not. And talk about a hit to team dynamics, having your “ace” walk off the mound in the playoffs due to a blister no doubt pissed off other players who have been dinged up all season.
But we all know we will keep him this season and just hold our breath come next October no matter if he goes 20-3 and wins the CY or if he goes 12-7. Then he’ll sign with a lesser team to make the money.

That's a whole lot of words just to say that our best chance to win a World Series is to not trade Fried this season.
