Gael Monfils would be a better example for tennis. The guy can serve 140+ MPH, jump like a NBA player, and has sprinter speed but hasn't won squat because he has zero understanding about how to construct points.

This is a good answer. Universally regarded as one of the smartest players on the floor (which made leaving Horry wide-open in the '05 Finals all the more ridiculous), had all the tools on both ends of the floor, exceptional teammate, simply had no desire to be "the man" or anything that came along with it.
