cheap owner
—the numbers do not show this

Cub fans believe them to be cheap because they believe he should be spending like the Dodgers, Mets and Yankees and he won't. It's all relative.

They seem very reluctant to exceed the first luxury tax tier since the Pandemic, but I think they will if they are securely in the race at the trade deadline and have in past years before 2020. I absolutely believe Jed could talk ownership to exceed that tier if it came to that.

But if you pull back they spend more than all but 7 or 8 of the owners in baseball, my issue is Jed has not done a good job with what they've spent. Milwaukee spent half what the Cubs did last year and beat us by 10 games.

Great trade. Cubs got one of the best players in baseball. Parades should really rake for the Astros. Wrigley LF was not a good spot for him. They got an excellent prospect and a pitcher who could allow them to trade Valdez.

Astros outfield is terrible though. They need to trade for Luis Robert….

Feel like the Cubs gave up a lot without the promise of an extension.

They can always trade him at the deadline or tender him next offseason and pick up a comp pick though.

I can see why some would perceive that, but I don't really feel that way.

Parades was a bad fit in Wrigley, I'm actually glad the Cubs recognized this early and gave him a chance to play somewhere that better fit his needs, i didn't see him sustaining success in Chicago.

Cam Smith - hell he may be a hall of famer one day, but he also might never make the majors. Cubs prospect Brennan Davis was one of the top 15 prospects in baseball just 3 years ago and the Cubs top one, and the injury bug hit and the Cubs just DFA'd him a month or so back, so IMHO you can't turn down a deal like Tucker on hopes and wishes.

Wisneski - as I said in another post, the stuff is nasty but I'm ready to let another team ride that roller coaster - I wish the best for him.

Yeah, the Cubs have like eight top 100 prospects. Trading one of them for one of the best players in baseball is what you are supposed to do.
And from the Astros’ perspective, trading for a guy who was just drafted makes sense, because the information asymmetry is much smaller versus trading for some guy who’s been in the Cubs’ organization for several years.

Thing is with any trade it feels like an overpay, remember Mets/Mariners a few years ago. It seemed the Mets gave up way too much at at the time, however, now looking at it the Mets came out ahead. Kelenic never developed despite the hype, neither did Dunn or Bautista.

We will see what Tucker can do without all that protection in the lineup.

Absolutely, prospect hording can get you in trouble. The percentage of those guys who really make a significant impact in the majors versus getting a bonafide star, if even for a year.....give me the star.

Had to start making the team better somewhere. They just added 5-6 wins if Tucker puts up his usual numbers. That takes them from 83 to 88, out of the playoffs to potentially in. They aren't done dealing either.

Yeah, I forget that with the expanded playoffs these GMs and managers have to find their way in or they will lose their jobs.

However, the Cubs aren't ready to win now, especially with how loaded the NL is around them.

The MLB playoffs can be a crap shoot. Arizona got in 2 years ago by 1 game and went to the World Series. The focus is now to just get into the postseason.

The Cubs don't have a player like Alvarez, but Suzuki is a pretty good bat. The Cubs' lineup has a bunch of pretty good, but not great hitters, which was the problem. He won't be totally unprotected.

I mean the Cubs are as ready as any team depending on a few players. A few smart small moves and bam they are a playoff team along with growth from their young core
