The earliest I remember was in 1985. Saw the Bad News Bears movie where they end up at the Astrodome and have been a fan ever since then. First loved the teams with Mike Scott, Glenn Davis, Jose Cruz, and Billy Doran.

high school in lake charles. they were the Colt 45s.
A Lake Charles radio station carried the st Louis cardinals before houston got the franchise.
and we got random day games on the Mutual network.
astronauts would have been the better name for me than Astros. what's an astro?

Family moved to Houston summer of ‘79. First day there was a Cubs/Astros day game on WGN and the rest is history. Bagwell is my favorite player and I was fortunate enough to be at Ryan’s 5th no hitter against LA in ‘81.

Basically, the same as the OP. Nothing says the mid-1970s Astros like Bob Watson and Cesar Cedeno (and Roger Metzger, who couldn’t hit water falling out of a boat). Used to listen to games on radio except it was 1150 WJBO. Used to get Sunday games on one of the local TV stations. And used to make a trip or two over every year, including a day at Astroworld.

I grew up in New Orleans and baseball was my favorite sport. Obviously Nola didn't have a team so here's why I cheer the Astros
1) Closet city to Nola with an MLB team
2) Always on TV on Fox Sports Network
3) Zephyrs were affiliated with the Astros for basically my entire childhood

My childhood best friends dad was from East Texas and a fan of the Astros. Went to my first game in 2000 or 2001. It wasn't until the 2004 playoff run that I really got sucked into baseball and made a habit of watching games regularly.

I became a fan in the late 90s. We went to a game in the Astrodome during a trip to Astroworld. They put my name on the scoreboard with a Happy Birthday message during the game. They moved to Enron Field and had some down years but it made the resurgence in 2004 and 2005 sweet. My Astros fandom peaked during 04 and 05 when I was in high school.
My fandom of M.L.B. baseball in general started to wane in 2008 when the M.L.B. and Captain Bitch Bud Selig sent the Astros to Milwaukee after Hurricane Ike during the middle of the playoff push and the Astros had to play a “home” series against the Brewers and got smoked and dropped out of the playoff race.
Then games stopped being shown on TV and they moved to the AL West and most games were at 9 pm.
Now I don’t give a lick about professional sports.

Colt 45 days! Would fall asleep listening to WWL-870 with my AM transistor radio tucked under the pillow!

Since 1980. I'd go visit my aunt and uncle who lived NW of H-town and go to the Astrodome every summer. The exploding scoreboard was magical

Born in Houston and used to listen to games on the radio. Milo Hamilton and Bill Brown. I think it was AM 740.

Dad grew up in Houston and Texas, so my childhood was full of watching the Astros. First memory for me is going to Enron the second year it opened, and got to see the Astros and Cubs play. I was a young kid at the time. I remember 2004 and 2005 like it was yesterday, and that’s really when my love for the Astros took off. Then we sucked arse but I kept on watching them, on FS Houston. Went to lots of games for cheap during those Lastros years from 2008-2014. Totally worth going through sucky years for these last 7 years though.

I'll be honest. Grew up a Braves fan with the access to TBS games and their success in the 90's. Actually went to a lot of games at minute maid any time the Braves were in town. Fell out of watching the MLB after I was done playing baseball myself. Moved to Houston in 2014. Was excited to be able to see live MLB games. Astros draft Bregman in 2015 and as an LSU grad I start paying attention more. Then from there on its hard not to get wrapped up in the team..
