Just read a post by the kid’s cousin. She says he just came back from Covid and the coach was punishing him by making him do extra for missing because he had Covid. Then the kid got hospitalized

The only kids who were cramping were the kids coming back from it.

..and last Friday night was mild in comparison to the heat they have been practicing in.

Who knows if what SHE says is correct since she most likely wasn't there, but if true that's really bad.

West Monroe seemed like a rough area the one time I visited.

It’s hard for me to believe that he would actually be this stupid. He may be, but I think that it may not be as black and white and that makes it sound. It’s either not the full story, things have been omitted or twisted, or there may be some politics at play.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a faction that was really against the hurt and have been waiting for something they could twist and use against him to try to get him ousted. That makes more sense to me than the 1st year coach of one of the biggest and most scrutinized programs in the state, in 2023, would actually punish a kid for missing practice because he had COVID by making him run in the heat.

But that is just my conspiracy theory. He may actually be that stupid. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

So they practiced inside yesterday with the new coach. Meanwhile the jr high teams practiced outside. Odd for sure.

This is so insane that my immediate reaction is that there must be some other unrelated reason.

But, high school coaches can be pretty dumb, and often are harsher on players than college coaches are.

Honest question, if the teams were allowed to practice in this heat during the summer and educated on and prepared with proper hydration, would we have this many cramping incidents?

Bingo. We did and we played a team that clearly did not last Friday. Game went almost 4 hours because every play the other team cramped up. Now, some of ours did but the ratio was somewhere on the order of 1 of our players would cramp for everyone 5 or 6 of theirs. Nutrition and hydration should be a point of emphasis at all times of the year, but especially in summer workouts and the beginning of the season.

Teams workout throughout the summer. Outside running along with 7 on 7. College players were cramping in games last weekend. It’s very common this time of year.

Union holds practice at 5:30am when it's hot. They learned their lesson when a kid died 10 yrs ago. Lately they've been having evening practices but no issues with over heating. My son has strep right now and they make him come to practice but he sits on the bench and watches.

West Monroe has a lot of problems they need a hard arse running the show to get them back to where they were.
