Sad times for Maradona.

Argentina have dropped two in qualifiers now.

Tevez missed a PK and Messi missed a gimme.

There are few people in the world I enjoy seeing fail more than Maradona.

Yep. Only 4 games left. And they have Brazil and Paraguay upcoming in September. They're currently 4th in qualifiers. They better get things turned around quick.

I'm sure he did some coke and got over it pretty quick.

They lost away to Ecuador. But they have Brazil at home (who are hitting their stride now) Paraguay on the road and Uruguay on the road. Peru is their only sure thing left in the qualifiers.

Ecuador has a pretty sweet deal going on in Quito. The stadium is at 9,300 ft. above sea level.

4. The 5th place plays the 4th place from CONCACAF in a home and home.

Argentina really is in trouble though. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ecuador, Columbia, and Venezuela jump them.

If two of them do so, they're out.

Maradona was just a terrible, terrible hire.

They need to beat Brazil. If they don't, they could realistically only get 3 or 4 more points.

Yeah. Superstars almost never make good coaches. The reason being, those superstars usually had some amazing natural abilities and didn't have to work as hard at it.

I don't really think I can recall a megastar that went on to be a great coach in recent years.

It is going to come down to Ecuador, Argentina, and Uruguay for the final 2 spots. Colombia doesn't have an offense and Venezuela has 3 tough games remaining. Should be interesting to see how it turns out. There are going to be some great matches in September and October.

Doesn't Uraguay play home against Argentina in the last qualifier? If so, that could be a loser stays home for South Africa type game.

Of course, if Argentina gets their shite together and beats Brazil, I think they're in.

Ecuador only has one home game left with three away so it could be tough for them.

I can't imagine a World Cup w/o Argentina. I think they've made it every time since the 50s.

Yeah the Argentina/Uruguay could definitely be it's own playoff. Ecuador is playing confident as hell right now, and all they need is one goal against Colombia to tie or win, because Colombia is seriously one of the most inept teams on offense. Ecuador playing at Bolivia really won't be difficult because they already play at altitude. Chile could have everything wrapped up by the time they face each other in the final game of the qualifiers. Uruguay, Colombia, and Ecuador all play each other in the final 4 games. Should be badass to see who makes it out. Colombia just can't score to save their lives so I think they are done.

I'm really hoping for a Argentina-Mexico 4 vs 5. How hilarious but also badass would that be?

If the entire world played American football it would be the equivalent of having Lawrence Taylor coach the US National team. Arguably the best player ever in the country's history, but WTF? Maradona must have some serious shite on the Argentine Futbol association to even be considered for the job.

If they don't qualify it will be the biggest upset in the history of sports.
