Kawhi Leonard recruited a number of his fellow star free agents this offseason, including Kyrie Irving, sources tell Zach Lowe of ESPN. Irving had settled on signings with the Brooklyn Nets early in the process. Leonard also reached out to Kevin Durant and Jimmy Butler before eventually convincing Paul George to request a trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Los Angeles Clippers. One executive said Learond "found his voice" during this process.

It was a “anybody but bron” kinda offseason for kawhi

Laughing at the Lakers? They are so insignificant I don’t think anyone wastes time laughing at them anymore. Lakers, Knicks, Wizards.

The key reason he wanted out of San Antonio was Bc they couldn’t get him another star level player. But he was gonna take whoever he could get over going to play with lebron.

That guy is obsessed with New Orleans sports

I legit think he would hate-frick Sean Payton if given the chance

And Harden/CP3, Steph/Thompson/Draymond, Giannis, and Westbrook, Kemba, AD, Embiid/Simmons, Lillard/McCollum, Jokic, Griffin, Gobert, etc.

In fact, of the 14 players (besides Leonard himself) who were on an All-NBA team, he didn’t reach out to 11 of them

But in reality, he reaches out to 3 of the 4 top free agents (save for Kemba), and George, who many expected to sign with LA team last season.

But if it was anybody but Bron, then the Lakers would never have been a finalist anyways.

he woulda took just about whoever he could get, See kyrie for an example, over going to play w lebron. Lebron is a guy that is well liked around the league but his off court antics have made him a very unattractive running mate for the other high end players in the league.

And apparently Harden as well since he didn’t even entertain the possibility of going to Houston despite, as you showed, their willingness to make moves to sign a max free agent (Butler) if possible.

But let’s be honest, Kawhi had the option of playing with one superstar on a deep team overall (and he’s only ever played on deep teams) or play with 2 superstars on a team with limited depth. And since load management was such an issue, he clearly chose the option that was probably better to manage his load in the regular season over the option with more upside potential in the postseason in the near term.

In other words, he choose to option with less downside risk over the option with more upside risk.

Are we done laughing at the Laker dumpster fire now?

quote:

They had a terrible off-season. The AD acquisition was a TRADE. A TRADE in which they gave up ton of valuable assets. The trade was undertaken assuming they would make a big signing. The success of the move hinged on this, and AD gave up his kicker knowing so. Then they complete whiffed and signed no big free agents while the other team in the same building cleaned up

Turns out, adding a top 5 player to another top 5 player isn’t a disastrous off-season after all

I don't laugh at the Lakers.

Their front running fanboys, however...

I get this sentiment but it’s still hilarious because the pelicans fans were celebrating the Lakers demise before a game was even played

1) He is the powerhouse

2) This thread is about the Lakers, not LeBron

The one he won vs Warriors was worth at least 2 of MJ's, namely the ones vs the Sonics and Blazers.

MJ got to win titles against teams led by Gary Payton and Clyde Drexler for goodness sakes. Those are good players but not MVPs.
