They had a rather difficult schedule. Not sure what you’re referring to.

They didn't beat a single team that finished the season with a winning record.

John Elway was not losing to either of those teams in that game.

It was his final game and he had the best running back and best tight end in the league.

Not sure what y'all are smoking on but pass it to da left.

This is Dan Marino’s missing Super Bowl.

Too bad he posted a 54.9 passer rating in the game. Manager must have packed the wrong socks or something.

Marino’s two AFC Championship game losses (both at home) were to teams that would go on to take epic arse kickings in the Super Bowl.

But none of it is Marino’s fault that he could only make one Super Bowl in the (at the time) lowly AFC.

1999

The whole playoffs were pretty remarkable if you think about it.

- The Music City Miracle (it was a forward pass)
- Titans beating the Jags for the 3rd time to give them all 3 of their losses as you noted.
- It's already been mentioned the Jags crushed Marino but less known is the Titans beating a young Peyton Manning in the same round. Could've had a Manning v Marino.
- The Greatest Show on Turf wins the NFCCG by scoring 11 points - easily their lowest point total of the season.
- SB ends on the 1 yard for the Titans.

They were 15-1 and had the NFC Championship Game won before they pissed it away and lost to the Falcons in overtime. I think they could have given the Broncos all they wanted in the Super Bowl that year.

People forget how decimated the Vikings defense were during the NFC Championship Game. John Randle and three other Vikings defensive starters were injured or severely hampered. TD and the Broncos offense would have run all over the Vikings defense.

The 1990 49ers deserve a mention. 14-2 regular season and shooting for the first ever three-peat. Had the NFC title game against the Giants in the bag until Roger Craig fumbled the ball.

I'll add the 2000 Titans

quote:

Fewest total yards allowed- Tennessee Titans (3,813)

Fewest passing yards allowed - Tennessee Titans (2,423)

quote:

Said Pro Football Prospectus of the 2000 Titans,

Only one of the last eight teams to lose the Super Bowl has made the playoffs the next season: the 2000 Tennessee Titans.[note 1] The Titans did not just make the playoffs; they waltzed in with the highest efficiency rating in the league and a 13–3 record. The three losses had come by a combined seven points.

The Titans first playoff game came against their bitter division rivals, the Baltimore Ravens,

Clearly prepared for a rematch with Baltimore’s stifling defense, the Titans outgained the Ravens 317 yards to 134. They converted 23 first downs to the Ravens’ 6. They had a time of possession advantage of 40:29–19:31. And they lost the game 24–10.
