I don't think Davis is a superstar either. I think Blake griffin probably is.

No

To me that have not proven their true worth. Playing with James does not help that. To be fair, most of these other big 3's have proven themselves before they got together.

Neither Love or Irving have even made it to the playoffs.

Superstars today in the NBA

Melo
Wade

Kobe
Howard
Harden
Durant

Rose
Duncan

I'm sure I'm missing one but that's about it imo.

Rose and Wade to start. They were... not anymore. If you're going to put Wade on that list, Dirk should still be on it. And let's face it, no one is going to run out there and go buy a Big Fundamental jersey. I wouldn't equate jersey sells into being a superstar. If so, that list would be much much larger.

When I think superstar, I think elite level player.

Player that makes his team an instant playoff caliber team, and makes all of the players around him better.

I think of popularity.

When Wade plays on the road people are showing up wearing Wade jerseys in every city. Wade is hands down a superstar. Rose? Maybe not, only becuase he wasn't around long enough before he got hurt. Dirk, yes I agree you can add Dirk.

Its level of play + popularity + "transcendence"

Are they playing at an elite level?

Are they popular in the NBA? Get All-Star votes? etc

Do they transcend the sport? Does your grandmother know who they are? Etc.

To me, there are only 3 superstars right now, and that is LBJ, Durant and Kobe. Kobe is questionable because of his level of play.

Everyone else is close, but don't transcend the sport like those guys do.

Wade was a superstar. Let's be truthful here, he's nowhere near the same player that put his team on his back and carried them to wins. Just because they still own and wear his jersey, doesn't mean he's still a superstar. That's why a jersey argument is extremely flawed.

Well, you're right. You're certainly entitled to your own opinion. It's hardly an exact science and we all have our own criteria.

When was the last time Wade was in a major national marketing campaign? Dude was a superstar 5 years ago. No longer.

Not really sure what you're asking, but he was in a Gatorade commercial in July.

Not enough popularity/recognition.

If I showed random people on the street James Harden and Anthony Davis, I'm pretty sure people who don't follow the NBA would have a better idea who Anthony Davis is.
