Guy starts thread talking shite about rivals and how they aren't important to him. Get's mad when someone tells him his school has no rivals.

I'm loving all the faggies saying UT means nothing to them. Um, your freaken fight song talks about mutilating UT's mascot. A&M = Jonestown , I guess it's maroon kook aid this time around.

And their song is all about us. But it doesn't really mean anything. Those songs were made over 100 years ago in a situation that was infinitely different than it is today. Bamas song still has Georgia Tech in it, guess that means they are rivals

Not too important to me. Some of them are pretty entertaining, but it's not like the sport depends on it.
Personally, as an LSU fan it seems like our "rival" is whomever gives us the most fits during that time.

Congratulations, Mr. TwoTeams.
This thread has almost convinced me that we need to play Texas again. Oh, and by "we," I mean the Texas Aggies, not any other team I might have worn a t-shirt for as a child.

A few points:
1. Conversations about sports should have a little context. Sports in general are not "important" the way your health, relationships, and job are important. But sports are something that a lot of people care about and invest in emotionally, so they are important to us in a different way. As far as sports go, rivalries are absolutely important. They are the games that many fans care about the most. Only two teams a year play for the championship (four make the current playoff). If people only cared about the championship, there would be a lot of people with no reason to watch sports about four games into each season. Rivalry games give your season some extra meaning each year and something additional to look forward to. For me it is definitely important. For the the (pro) teams that I am a fan of who don't have real rivals, it always feels like a little something is missing from the season.
2. This is especially true for college football b/c in most objective ways the NFL has a better on field product, so college sports depend more on loyalty and emotion for their draw.
3. Of course some people may disagree, but I think a lot of sports fans feel the same way. College football is riding high right now, but I honestly think that underestimating the importance of rivalries poses a long-term risk to the sport. College football lost several great rivalries with realignment, and I hope that trend doesn't continue.

SC/ND is a much bigger, more important, higher stakes rivalry than SC/UCLA is and pretty much always has been.
This is wrong on so many levels......

Rivalries are for Alumni.
The average fan probably doesn't really care, and as long as a good football game or a win takes place, they are ok with that.

If you mean Army v Navy - I don't see it as a rivalry game so much as a traditional game. Those guys don't hate each other.

Let's hear the explanation.
SC and ND have more than 20 titles between the two programs. They have met many, many times when either one or both of the programs are in serious contention for a national title...probably on the order of forty or more times. They have played in some of the most iconic games in the sport's history (1964, 1968, 1974, 1977, 1978, 1988, 2005). They have been playing both longer and have played more times than UCLA. What's the reason?

Until the big 12 coaches and AD's force a conference playoff game, I won't listen to their opinions.

No, it's not. One line in a song is not "all."
THIS is "all" about Texas:
quote:
Good-bye to texas university
So long to the orange and the white
Good luck to dear old Texas Aggies
They are the boys that show the real old fight
“The eyes of Texas are upon you . . .”
That is the song they sing so well
So good-bye to texas university
We’re going to beat you all to
Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem
Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem
Rough Tough! Real Stuff! Texas A&M!
Saw Varsity’s horns off!
Saw Varsity’s horns off!
Saw Varsity’s horns off!
Short!
Varsity’s horns are sawed off!
Varsity’s horns are sawed off!
Varsity’s horns are sawed off!
Short!

He doesn't give a shite. He's some lifelong all-things-LA fan who spends most posts trying to subtly tell everyone that college sports are inferior to pro sports now that he resides in a place where nobody cares much about college sports.

Dude, nobody cares. Go back to your Playstation and take your annual whippings from Alabama and LSU like a good little bitch aggie.

Not really. A&M just traded one daddy for two daddies. Now you can double your inferiority complex. Have fun.
