quote:

The people at Baylor talk about college football rivalries the way they talk about Oldsmobiles. Or BlackBerrys.

"Well, I don't want to use the words 'not necessary,'" Bears head coach Art Briles said. "I just think the game's OK without 'em."
quote:

"I think in our case," McCaw said, "people are looking at, who are the teams that we are going to need to beat to win a championship? That's going to define the rivalries. If the No. 1-ranked team in the nation right now was Iowa State, our fans would be clamoring to get tickets for the Iowa State game
quote:

"One thing is for certain," TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte said in his office in Fort Worth, "we're always going to have conference realignments." He began listing them from 1978, when Arizona and Arizona State left the WAC for the Pac-10. "When you make decisions at the time that are right for your school, sometimes what's going to suffer is those natural rivalries."

As the fan of a team without a current true rival, I think rivalries are very important. Having a date or two circled on your calendar each year is one of the best parts of sports. Rivalries are one of the top reasons why NCAA football is better than NFL to me.

Yes rivalries are still important. Baylor has never been relevant until recently so what makes their voice count about rivalries?

Because I think it brings up an interesting topic. Sure, rivalries are fun but in the grand scheme of things, are they really that important? I don't think so

We don't have a rivalry with Texas. I don't see how that's relevant

It's convenient for Baylor to not think they're important

They insisted for years to anyone that would listen that OU was their real rival

Y'all have fun at the State Fair, hear?

I agree with this but I want to disagree too. Now that Oregon has become one of the more consistent top ten teams, it's harder to get up for a game with Oregon St. When they're lucky to win 3 games. However, it's more Fun. Objectively, I agree but as a fan, not at all.
