I didn't, it is the lying that does him in.

To me, the lying is the cherry on top of his ineptitude.

I think had he not just suspended a dude for a full season for an amount of pot that is consistent with second hand smoke (an amount so small even the military DGAF) around the same time of the RR incident things might be different.

But since Judge Goodell did that he screwed himself. He made it look like the NFL views spousal abuse as a lesser transgression compared to potential use of a drug that is slowly being legalized all around the country.

It boils down to (A) if he saw the video and thought that only warranted 2 games his judgement is not sound and cannot be trusted on other major issues or (B) he made a ruling w/o video which would make his judgement just as bad if not worse.

Either way he has proven himself to be an incompetent judge/jury and has given the NFL such a large PR hit that his firing should be all but a given.

likely, but this may be enough, that story has yet to be flushed out

which executive
where is she on the chain
etc.

Then you have the potential for that person to just up and burn them

reporters who reported this months ago to reveal their sources, those sources to come forth and on and on...emails, texts, etc.

and you know if ray rice and the NFLPA file suit, they're in for some ugly press for a while.

shite, what if ray rice knows goodell has seen it and starts to feel uneasy about whether he'll get another chance...one call and he's burned.

the NFL's only hope is to rely upon the stupidity of their consumers and/or their unwillingness to take a stand...I hope they're betting on a losing horse.

Amazing.

Listening to LeBatard on Dan Patrick today. He was on point. Basically, this dude has been the most punitive commissioner in the history of sports, putting the hammer down on players. Now that hammering is coming back on him. I love it. At this point, I don't think he's going anywhere, but it is fun to watch the NFL take this amount of heat.

It's the very definition of circumstantial evidence.

All I'm saying is that they need more than this. If they can find phone conversations, emails by Goodell that implicate him, that's what's going to do the trick. Good luck if you think their own handpicked investigator is going to come forward with that information.

Maybe this executive will be the whistleblower, or the sacrificial lamb, we'll see.
While we all aren't dummies, we know he saw the video, you're right in the sense that we can't prove he did.

But i'm not sure how much that matters. Sure, if it's proved he did, that's worst case scenario. But we're at a point now where Goodell can't win either way. It's undeniable now that he has botched this investigation, making it the 2nd one he's botched. We can argue whether that warrants him losing his job, I'd say absolutely. Why keep him around when you can get another guy knowing he won't affect the cash flow but he also won't keep bringing back bad PR for your league.

So ironic that one of his main stances on being commish is to protect the shield and now he's the guy staining the shield.

How does the help the NFL? Rice lawyers will still sue based on the fact that the NFL changed his punishment based on evidence that was already in their possession.

I've had to break a long ESPN drought to see and hear the reactions...SVP was roasting him too

The NFL isn't going to get everyone to heel. Right now, they don't have a credible face or anyone to fix this mess. They're in hiding, planning their next move, which is good for them, because so far every step has been an impulsive, nonsensical PR disaster.

It's not stupidity. People just really don't care as much as they're letting on. That crowd includes everyone that had new outrage when the video came out, when they really didn't give a damn before the video came out. It's insincere outrage.

I personally think Goodell knows more than he let on but I don't see that information being brought to light. Maybe I'm too cynical.

Futhermore, as it stands now he didn't break any laws. So we're depending on a stooge investigator to nail him? Wouldn't get my hopes up.

Who else is going to come forward? The anonymous law enforcement official who wasn't supposed to disseminate the video in the first place? He/she is going to sacrifice their job for a noble cause? Not likely.

hold up, what the hell does that have to do with anything.

no, for the negative attention to persist, for the articles deriding him and calling for his termination to persist, for further proof he's lying, which will increase the bad exposure...for the owners to get a little hot under the collar and tell him it's been real.

People just really don't care as much as they're letting on

That's why it is the top story on ESPN, SI, NBC, DS, every sports media site, that's why Roger was on CBS evening news, that's why no one has talked about the games played and the one being played tonight...maybe they don't care about the NFL as much as they let on. if revenue and ratings are the end all be all, do you think ESPN and those other entities are getting increased traffic and ratings, steady, or declining?

This story will not persist. If nothing else comes out, we're not even discussing this in 2 weeks. We live in an age of ADD when it comes to news.

People care today, because it's the top news. Something else will be top news soon and that's what people will care about next.

They're not going to ruin their little good ol boys club because they're catching a little heat right now.

you wonder what kind of fricked up corporate culture the NFL really has...is everyone there and everyone formerly there a loony fanatic ready to humiliate themselves and fall on the sword to protect the shield?

"protect the shield"

they say this enough to make it almost seem like a cult or sect
