Three of the league owners who are overseeing the "independent" investigative committee are 3 of Goodell's strongest supporters. Unless sponsors start pulling out, and this will never happen at this level of advertizing dollars, nothing will happen.

I knew he was safe when I heard this.
I think they "suspend" him at most.

Rodger's biggest mistake was trying to take all of this on by himself. Goodell may think he can handle all of these situations but he should have leaned more on legal counsel than thinking he knows everything.
Did making an example of one team, the Saints, on the bounty scandal improve his image when every team has done that since the NFL was established. Who doesn't want to take the other team's QB out.

Will their investigation be able to shred all of the evidence before TMZ finds it, though?

By the looks of the reddit comments, it is making him out to be a hypocrite

So 3 is greater than 29 now? None us knows the stance of those 29 other owners here. To assume that the other owners feelings will all mimic those of Kraft, Mara & Rooney is a strong assumption. It's hard enough to get 5 men to have the same opinion on a subject much less 32.

Again, it won't take sponsors pulling completely away from the NFL. All those sponsors need to do is make demands to the NFL. I seriously doubt sponsors are thrilled with being associated with what some are viewing as a league that supports domestic violence. Whether you want to believe it or not, these sponsors have an open window of leverage. These sponsors are just as savy business wise as those who represent the NFL. They will cover every aspect possible to look out for their best interest.
The sponsors aren't going to back away from their golden goose but you better believe they will take this opportunity to voice their opinions in order to get business back to normal.

I guarantee you watch, and comment on, the Saints game this weekend.
it's not even difficult at this point.
it just really hasn't been as much fun and this only adds to it.

Well to be fair the event, trial , and national exposure ruined his life...
All of us would be changed...
The media picked a random tragedy and look at the aftermath.
Rice beating his wife is a worthy of a national story because?

ray has been railroaded harder by goodell than by the media
being suspended again, when no new evidence was considered is bullshite

So is this just a case of RG's incompetence or is he trying to protect somebody/something?

before now, where he's on national tv lying to everyone like a bloated buffoon, he could've just withstood it and said, I can't redo the decision, that's against our CBA, I said I made a mistake, I redid the policy in response, there's nothing more I can do. I made a mistake and I'm sorry...that's it, then just wait until more games are played.
This would be over now if he hadn't lied.
so no, the media didn't force goodell to do anything. he is responsible for his own misdeeds. Rice was expelled a second time for the same infraction, with the same evidence
I actually feel sorry for Ray Rice. From all accounts he was very straight forward, he cooperated and they decided 2 games...the courts have handled it and come to their decision...he's being punished again, this time for the league's incompetence.
He has a lot more integrity than they do in my eyes

Ray Rice should sue to get his suspension down to 6 games.

Probably not this season because I can see teams not wanting the distraction but if he's still good enough to play next season, someone will most certainly give him a shot.

No, he should sue after his two game suspension is up and ask for the full value of his contract.
After his first punishment was handed down, his NFL contract was terminated and he was suspended indefinitely based on evidence that the NFL and his lawyer already had. The last thing the NFL wants is this going to court.

there are really only 27 other owners at this point. The Bills sale hasn't been finalized and the Colts owner is suspended for another 5 weeks.
BTW: Goodell was at the Masters's the day the tape was delivered to the NFL.
