Nice for Murray, but he already failed on a bigger stage at Wimbledon. Tennis is just one of those sports where the olympics aren't quite on the same level as the major events. There is no prize money, many of the players don't play or drop out at the first sign of injury, and the preliminary matches only go best of 3 sets. We will see how this helps Murray when it matters at Wimbledon, Roland-Garros, etc.

Exactly. I dont see what all the hoopla is about. Tennis probably isn't even going to be an Olympic sport next go round. It's retarded.

Yeah, I don't care for the Olympic tournament format. Murray lost to joker but wins gold. Wtf.

Avenging his loss to Federer...becoming a national hero? I feel like Tennis is much bigger in this Olympics, obviously because of Wimbledon.

I'm definitely happy for him.

I also think this win will help his confidence in big matches, which will help him eventually win a major.

1. Nadal is legitimately injured
2. Nobody else of any import dropped out

There are ranking points at stake.

What do you think means more to the top players?

Very happy for him. The Olympic medal is a big deal, especially on his home soil.

I'm happy for Murray, but has anyone brought up Federer laying down and allowing it? He looked like shite.

He would have been torn to shreds had he lost.

Murray has an unreal amount amount of pressure to represent his country

Since Murray is Scottish, I'll ask how come all the different entities of Great Britain don't represent themselves?

I'm conditioned to Six Nations rugby where England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales are all separate teams.

It just seems so odd to slide this Olympics into the middle of the tennis season. The professional circuit is already long and grueling and most of the players are probably gearing up for the US Open more so than winning the Olympics. Although I'm sure they would like to win the gold medal it probably falls behind majors easily. Nobody asks how many gold medals these guys have taken ten years from now but how many majors they have won.
