Russia's too busy hoping the old man winter saves their arse like it always has. Maybe it'll actually snow for the winter games and that'll block the roads and protect the city.
The value of life has never been a concern in that country.

I saw somewhere that the Russian government was capturing wild Orca whales to use in the opening ceremonies...

The summer games are 100x bigger
I don't even know what that means.

There's never been a lead up to any games like there has been with this one.
Again, I don't know what this has to do with anything.

I just take issue with posters who are quick to point out how Russia can't make the Olympics safe, as if the US is untouchable in that respect.

So if the Sochi games come and go without an attack, that means that Russia is better at defending itself since they kept the games safe in a much more difficult environment to do so than, say, Atlanta? Of course not. It can happen anywhere if someone is determined enough to make it happen, regardless of all the "merica, frick yeah!" types on this board.

You sound mad. It must suck having to live with the fact we're awesome.

What point are you even arguing?

That those who are so quick to condemn Russia for an attack on the Olympics that hasn't happened yet should realize that bashing them while championing 'Merica, which has actually allowed an attack to happen during the Games, seems presumptuous.

You're going to have to deal with it.

Just did some research and it lies on the same parallel as Vermont and New York. Wonder why it is so hot there right now?
(I have no knowledge of how weather works on parallels across the globe, just figured it would be more akin to places that lie N/S around the world. Someone with more meteorologic knowledge can answer)

Proximity to Chernobyl.
The meltdown has warmed up that part of the world, and it'll stay that way for decades.

Putin will most likely deal with the terrorists the way that we SHOULD deal with them. Announce that anyone committing a terrorist act during these games will be eternally damned and we will kill the rest of your family, every friend you have, your pets, and cock roaches that dwell in your home. Once these cowards see this is the recourse for blowing themselves up, they will get a feeling for others in the world.
Putin won't allow anything to make him look vulnerable on this stage, IMO. He's already got the upper hand for making BHO his bitch in the Syria affair.

I thought Vancouver had those issues too, IIRC. At least it's a much cooler place than Sochi

Sochi's weather problems aren't near what people are hyping it up to be. The only events being held in Sochi are indoors, which don't require snow or cold weather. The spot to look for is Krasnaya Polyana, 40 km away, where the outdoor events will be.

I hope you're not being serious.
Chernobyl is in Ukraine. Sochi is essentially in Georgia. Basically every single city in Germany (not to mention all of Eastern Europe) is closer to Chernobyl. Hell, Paris is almost as "close" to Chernobyl.

As someone who travels to Russia a lot...I think it is easy to dump on them...
It is much easier for terrorists in Russia due to the size of the country. There is no way they can protect 100% all those locations.
But, when it comes to protecting a specific location, the Russians do not mess around and I feel the athletes will be safe.
As for corruption, it is the Olympics...do not care if it is Russia, Japan, USA, etc...there is always something going on behind the scenes..
That being said, Sochi would have been a better Summer Olympics choice...

Espn ticker is reporting the Russians are investigating a security breach by a potential female suicide bomber.
