Not to mention if you're not on the preseason watch list you basically have no chance, no matter how good you are.

exactly.

also, does is bother anyone else that you NEVER have any defensive players in the race? in the past decade, it's become very clear that defense wins games (in most cases).

yep, no linemen...receivers apparently have to do something unprecedented...just QBs and RBs.

If Josh Reed couldn't get invited with his 1900 yards in the SEC! No WR should ever get invited.

i remember thinking the exact same thing. And it wasn't an LSU bias thing. Crabtree not being included last year is horrible, and obviously CJ before him.

yea. apparently only a QB or RB can be the best player of the year.

People like Calvin Johnson & Crabtree will laugh their way to the bank while people like Jason White will be coaching high school football. Not that it justifies the process, but it all comes full circle.

the fact that in the past 20 years only 2 players from the SEC have won it, also makes it a joke.

Tebow was on a different world in my mind. I couldn't care less about 4 losses

Exactly.

It seems to always go to a player on a top 10 team.

I'm glad they made the exception last year and gave it to the most deserving guy.

On a completely separate note note, I think it's funny how some people will blame ESPN and then fall for ESPN's media blitz all at the same time.

When TT beat Texas, i can't count how many people at that time were all over Crabtree's nuts for the Heisman.

At that point, I NEVER saw 1 post about Dez Bryant, despite the fact that at that time, he had like 7 less catches, 200 more yards, the same amount of TDs, like 5 or 6 more YPC, ALL despite the fact that his team threw the ball HALF as much as Texas Tech. I'm not taking anything away from Crabtree, but to that point in the season, Dez Bryant was DEFINITELY having a better season.

I agree with Slackhouse, it's been a joke to me ever since Peyton Manning lost to Woodson in 1997, pretty much shows there is a northern bias if they have a candidate.

I think last year was the first time in a long time that the heiman went to the best player in college football as opposed to the best player on the best team award that it has been in recent history.

i think it's been a joke for years....

and yes, it's all about media hype now...well it's always kind of been about media hype. I don't put too much stock into the award, or any subjective awards for that matter.

Peyton certainly deserved based on how many times he beat Florida, right?
