Anybody else hate the fact that there's no parity in the NBA?

I hate seeing the same four or five teams good year in and year out.

I also hate seeing the fact that there are no teams in the league who hate each other like they did back when Jordan, Isaiah Thomas, Pat Ewing, etc. played in the late 80's and 90's. Seems like everybody is buddy buddy with each other.

I know these are two separate issues but feel free to discuss either one.

Seeing as the Lakers and Celtics have won 33 of the 64 championships, Its not really that new.

Same thing with baseball IMO.
That's why it's so hard for me to get into either. Just doesn't seem like there's as much passion in either team

I hate the fact that there's no defense in the NBA. I hate the fact that there are 50 games too many in the NBA regular season. I think parity would take care of itself with either of the above changed.

A 32 game NBA season?

Far too short IMO...

9 different teams have won the last 10 World Series

While only 7 different teams have won the last 10 superbowls.

It would be nice to see a Milwaukee/Memphis/NO/Portland at least make it to the conference chanpionship once in a while. There's no chance for a cinderella in the Association right now.

The Spurs have won four championships in the last 12 years. The Pistons have a championship. The Nets made it to the Finals two years in a row and everyone thought the NBA was dying.

8 teams have won the championship over the last 30 years. And the Miami Heat and Philidelphia 76ers only won one each and the Rockets won two. Besides those four years, it has been five teams (the Lakers, Bulls, Pistons, Celtics and Spurs) winning all the championships over 25 years.
That's not parity!

IMO & IMHO, it makes me less interested in basketball. I'd like to see them get rid of three or four teams, increase the roster size by one and fix the contract situation. Too many teams are sinking because of bad contracts/trades. Granted that's their own fault, but it sinks a franchise and makes them not interesting to watch. That's the great thing about football, most teams have a shot ever few years to win. Not so in basketball.

Of the last 12 Western Conference champions, 11 of them have been won by the Lakers or Spurs. So it's not just the NBA champs, it filters to the conference level as well.

Everyone makes the playoffs it seems, but playoff upsets are fairly rare (outside of a one seed line difference). And when upsets do happen, they don't advance. So why not just limit the playoffs to the top 4 teams? Or even the top two? Why bother watching the first round of the NBA playoffs?

18 different teams have made the Finals in the last 30 years.

The NBA has the least parity of all the sports, but it's not as bad as people want to make it out to be.

Cause the 1st round can produce some awesome matchups (ie: the mavs getting abused by the warriors & the epic bulls/celtics series a year or two ago)

Since I have been watching the NBA, and I am 36, there have always been the have's and have not's. Always. It's so bad that I was actually going to start a thread today that basically asked, what NBA teams have you forgotten exist. The Bucks came to mind. I had actually forgotten that they were even a team.

18 different teams have won the World Series in the last 30 years. Only 4 teams of 30 have failed to make one (and the Pirates just miss the cut as 1979 fell off). Only one AL team has not been in the World Series in the last 30 years. One.

18 teams in 30 years is not great parity. 30 years is a long time. I'm not saying the lack of parity is entirely bad, but I don't see how we can claim there is much.

I usually don't. I don't think we should get rid of the first round, but it should be a best of five series, not a best of seven.

Really?

Last 10 years:
2001: D'Backs
2002: Angels
2003: Marlins
2004: Red Sox
2005: White Sox
2006: Cardinals
2007: Red Sox
2008: Phillies
2009: Yankees
2010: Giants

I'd say that's parity right there.

If Mark Cuban ever bought some defense, he would be in the club too...
