CMS coach had been there for 30+ years, was he run off or did he just retire? I thought he just retired
anyway part of the success of CHS football was the system at CMS but that doesn't account for the kids that came to CHS from Acadian Middle, NP Moss, Scott Middle, and Lafayette Middle and contributed
and if you are wondering how does a kid from a Lafayette, Northside or Acadiana feeder school end up at CHS in the glory days the answer is simple:
1) CAYSI is run by Carencro football alums and boosters
2) they see every kid from SLYSI/Brown Park/SATS in youth football and learn who they are early on
3) kids get to middle school and the Carencro volunteer "coaches" (which were just alumni helping the program out) would go watch the games
4) CHS parents would talk up kids and their parents of other feeders at the middle school games
5) talk of "hey your son should come to carencro and play with my son for coach mac so they win a state title" amongst the parents. Don't send your kid to Acadiana/Lafayette/Northside send them to carencro where they will win and be "safe"
6) now it is as simple as finding an address in the carencro zone, moving to a rent house/apt in carencro or later on enrolling in the special academy at carencro and your kid is playing for mac and the best program in Lafayette Parish (at the time)
Alley Broussard lived in the Acadiana zone, visited Lafayette High in the summer before his 9th grade year, worked out all summer with the carencro football team but went to Acadiana when an Acadiana Football Asst Coach showed up at his apt at 7AM and brought him to Acadiana and enrolled him. Much to Mac Barousse's chagrin, because they thought they had him but they didn't follow through.

BHS does rely on majority to minority kids, but that goes beyond football

The whole story is very "Friday Night Lights-ish" Supes.

Sounds like private and magnet schools.

Lafyette high has a magnet program. But Northside, Carencro and Acadiana don't, as far as I know, but their zones lines are blurry to say the least.

keiland williams is from Broussard (southside of lafayette). he grew up in Broussard, went to school in Broussard and played youth sports in Broussard. Broussard Middle is a Comeaux feeder school.
during the summer after his 8th grade year keiland went to Comeaux to see the football team workout. he had a "doo-rag" on his head. The Comeaux coach told him to take it off because his players don't wear that kind of stuff and he humiliated KW. KW goes home to broussard, tells his dad what happened and says he doesn't want to go to Comeaux. KW's dad halfheartedly tries to get him into STM with some help from the family of a STM kid KW was very close to but KW doesn't have the pre-requisites for admission. Mysteriously KW winds up enrolled at Northside and now lives with his mother. Northside goes to the Dome, KW goes to LSU and the Comeaux coach that ran KW off got fired last year.
imagine that

I heard this story before, I was going to say it but couldn't really remember all of it and didn't want to pass off any half-truths.

What was it that kept him out of STM? money, or the fact that his is dumb as a brick?

This is all that is wrong with the internet. I know this kid, and he is far from dumb. Even if it's was a joke, people will now run with it. Keiland says thanks.

have to take a test to get into the magnet school
the rest of the HS have the academies but you have to remain enrolled in the academy to stay eligible. if you go to CHS and enroll in the IT academy and then drop out the principal has to report that you are no longer in the academy and you are ineligible for sports. If the principal doesn't report it....
and private schools have two main factors to deal with that publics don't. student code of conduct and tuition. you can avoid tuition if you are poor and qualify for aid, otherwise you will pay. You can get in to private school but there is no guarantee you will stay there if you are a frick up. they reserve the right to run you off

KW isn't dumb at all. I have known him for a long time and he is actually very articulate and outgoing. IIRC KW has a learning disorder that went undiagnosed and caused him to fall behind in school. what kept him out of STM was his transcript was a mess and he was almost two years older than his grade. I don't think he really wanted to go to STM, so they didn't really push the issue.

So which was the case for KW. money or frick up?

he already said it was his screwed up transcript and his age, and the fact that he didn't really want to go there.

No way....someone would have come up with the money to get this kid in there. It had to be the grades.
I think this shows some class by STM not just letting anyone in that school without the grades you are supposed to have. No matter what kind of athlete they are.
