Angels and Yankees discussed Aaron Judge trade this past off-season

The Angels had trade talks with the Yankees about Aaron Judge this winter, ESPN.com’s Buster Olney reports, though it sounds as if the discussions were little more than due diligence. “It was the lightest of flirtations,” as Olney put it, “and perhaps a door-opener for other names.” No details about the specific nature of the talks were mentioned, though it’s safe to assume the Angels explored some bigger outfield names like Judge before eventually landing Dexter Fowler in a salary dump of a trade from the Cardinals.
Needless to say, a Judge trade would have been arguably the offseason’s biggest blockbuster, and it’s fun to speculate about what exactly Los Angeles would have had to give up to land the slugger. (Cue the inevitable “Judge for Trout and Ohtani sounds about fair” jokes in the comments section.) The Angels and Yankees were somewhat imperfect trade partners since both shared a need for starting pitching, which could be one of the reasons negotiations didn’t get very far. Since getting under the luxury tax threshold seemed to be the Yankees’ primary offseason goal, finances would likely have played some factor in a hypothetical trade, though obviously, the Yankees wouldn’t have just given Judge away to clear his relatively modest $10.175MM salary. Olney also observed that discussion about Judge’s future in the Bronx will soon become more prominent, as Judge is only under team control through the 2022 season.
Yankees' oft-injured slugger and fan favorite on the move would have been huge. Yankees will have to make a decision on Judge and his contract, what is he worth when he has only played in 63% of the Yankees games since 2018. Is he worth 30m a year over 8 years considering he will be 29 tomorrow and a free agent after 2022.

Amazing the Angels need more. They already have the stat nerd GOAT with his 4858582719 WAR and still can’t sniff the playoffs.

6'7 282 ain't made to stay healthy 170+ games a year.

Especially if they're an outfielder.

Aaron Judge is one of the most overrated players in baseball. Stop calling this guy one of the best players in the game when he can't play any more than 120 games in a season.

It is kind of crazy that Trout is the greatest player of his generation and he’s made only one playoff appearance in his career going 1-12 at the plate while this team got swept.

Well that isn't true

No no it's 100% most definitely true. Outside of 2017 in 5 other seasons, he's never played more than 112 games. No I'm correct in saying he's the most injury prone player in baseball. I can't say anything other than he's big time overrated if he pretty much never plays a full season.

NYY would be retarded to give him this kind of contract.

Is Judge really that good? I don’t watch the Yankees very much, but The Show has him rated like 97.

If you look closely at Trout's crown it says, "sponsored by prisoners of the moment."
Aaron Judge has a manager issue. The Yankees got rid of Joe Gerardi because the players thought him too unrelatable. Even though he had an extremely young team overachieving in their last playoff run. Unrelatable, and this is the franchise that hired Billy Martin, at least twice through their Reggie Jackson championships.
Every year that Aaron Boone has had all this talent they have failed to live up to half their ability in the playoff. Now, they can't hit or pitch. Way too much top-level talent on this team to be looking so fundamentally bad. Aaron Boone coaches with the same proficiency that he played the game. Very average.

the roids don't help either

Boone would be well served to spend more time in practice on the sacrifice bunt and two strike hitting and other renown baseball fundamentals! Back to the basics for these guys !

The Yankees beating the Indians in 2017 might be the biggest MLB playoff upset of the last 20 years. That was a great Indians team.

No.
I love Judge, but no way does he deserve a $30/yr contract given his age and injury history, especially when they already have a similar situation with Stanton.

Knowing how the Angels like to give out bad contracts, he was probably hoping for this.
