I said I think secretariat ran hard based on his jockeys statement. If you aren't trolling, tell me how that is me alluding to a horses mindset?

secretariat was giving it his all even though he had a lead way bigger than AP's is pretty much saying you know the horse's mindset.

He was quoting the passenger who has a better idea than anyone else on earth how Secretariat was reacting.

Big Red had the over sized heart, Secretariat was the greatest competing horse to ever set foot on a track.

From what I heard the analysis say AP was very close to the same stride as Secretariat.

It depends, did AP really have to be pushed at any point?

Yeah, what happened to the other horses that tried to run with Big Red. AP probably would have suffered the same fate.

Yeh I think very few people in this thread realize that. Secretariat was definitely the best horse in the triple crown races. But he lost 3 times in his racing career. Man o war like you said earlier is the true horse that couldn't be run with

If there is no sham in the belmont in 73, big red never runs that fast, because he didn't have to to beat the rest of the horses.

With no sham there is no "secretariat". horses don't run a against a stop watch they run against other horses. it took 3 record breaking races to beat sham 3 times. You're basically penalizing AP becuase he didn't have to run against a sham

Umm it is the words of his jockey. I think his jockey is a pretty good source

going back and reading that part, didn't his jockey say he thought about slowing him down but his breathing was good and he was fine (or something to that effect). to me that sounds like he was all good and could've been coasting and possibly went faster. which you disagree with

In the quote, the jockey also says it is the hardest Red ever ran. That leads me to beleive for whatever reason Secretariat ran his hardest that day. I never said it was impossible Red couldn't run faster, I just said in my opinion it isn't likely

Heck Sham would would have probably been a better match for AP. In the Derby experts estimated that Sham probably broke 2:00 minutes.

UMMMM... yall do know that American Pharoah is a 5th descendant of Secretariat.

So I guess technically they did run together (one only in part) and they tied!

Seriously
With Secretariat having a heart almost 3 times the size of a normal horse and a stride length of 28 feet, I would have to say that ol'Pappy would take him. Then again what am I saying, Hell he's dead, and of course American Pharoah would take him today
