This going to change a lot for people like Livvy or whatever her name is (the hot LSU gymnast with millions of followers) but it isn't going to change football/basketball that much.

Past:
I want you to go to my alma mater, here's $10,000. And we can text about things while you're here (so I have access).

Future:
Thanks for signing for my alma mater, here's $10,000. ANd I just need you to take photos in front of my building, etc.

Settle down everyone. What's gonna happen? Bama is going to start buying all the best players? LOL

Its the end of the business model, things will eventually collapse. What happens after the collapse is hard to guess at this point.

College sports has been over for some time, but the realization will be quick over the next few years.

If you're going to start a thread aimed at the "haters" you should post some evidence of said hate.

Sorry, I just don't see it changing much, and been reading a lot of doomsday stuff. M'eh.

There, changed "haters" to "worryers"

I’m really thinking one of the factors the NCAA passed the NIL was to address the opting out. It was on a slippery slope. At least now they have a financial incentive to continue playing.

Okay, but how do you explain the record crowd at the College World Series this week?

The NCAA didn't pass these temporary rules becomes they had a choice.... DOJ and lawsuits are catching up to them.

The current temporary rules will be going bye bye as well... its not a choice.

It has nothing to do with crowds, the business model isn't going to work... eventually.

- no salary caps
- no ability to really stop transfers
- no contracts so players don't have to perform, and can all choose to stop playing as a group
- lawsuits, lawsuits, lawsuits
There is a reason why the pro sports have an anti-trust exemption... there really isn't a good business model to support it without the exemption.

Are you ok if Nike wanted to adopt a policy as a company to pay the starting quarterback of college programs a per game NIL fee based on the following scale:

University of Oregon - $4,000
Jordan branded university - $2,000
Nike branded university in the SEC - $1,500
Nike branded university in other power 5 conference - $1,000
Nike branded university in group of 5 conference - $750

This won't happen.

And are you ok with it if it did? Did you forget about the basketball shoe scandal?

Big Business is fricking cut-throat. I don’t think it’s going to ruin the sport but to assume it will be business as usual and have no negative impact is ignorant. I’ve been in sales and marketing for many years. Things WILL change, but none of us can predict how yet.

Money is the root of all evil. Greed is next.

Coaches and their huge salaries started this ball rolling. Higher expectations, new facilities, more fans at games, more money being made, more payroll, TV, shared profits, etc.

I think NIL will be used to recruit kids from one program to another. As a fan, you will not be able to know who from last year will return next year. The Alabama’s of the world will attempt to poach all of the top performers.
