quote:I've never claimed it was.
And if you know anything about Tebow, you would know that being an Evangelical Christian is not some marketing gimmick.
quote:We could have a long discussion about how discussing "the media" as a monolith is dumb and how there were probably twenty opinion pieces yesterday "proving" that "the media" hate Joe Biden, but instead let's think about what it means to "hate" someone.
It's funny you doubt this, when you can easily google tebow, and find multiple articles (including a very recent and public Stephen A. Smith idiotic rant) about him.
Criticism of the Jags bringing in Tebow isn't proof that anyone hates him. If it is, then the media also hate Alex Leatherwood because they criticized the Raiders for drafting him too high and Carson Wentz because they said that the Colts overpaid for him. Claiming that a player is overpaid, washed up, or undeserving of a spot isn't hate, it's just a part of life as a pro athlete.
If ESPN is a part of "the media" then claims that "the media" hate him are absurd. No one helps somebody they hate. No one hires someone they hate to a lucrative contract. No one puts someone they hate on the flagship show of their new network.
quote:This is phrased as though ESPN had no choice but to hire Tebow because absolutely no one else could have filled that role, which just isn't true. SECN is going to prove that next year as it rolls on just fine without him.
Is it a shock that the media is a slave to the dollar? The media and left may hate Tebow, but everyone else recognizes he's a genuinely good guy. Oh, and i'm sure the fact that being known as one of the best college football players in the game has something to do with it, no?
The problem is that "the media hate Tim Tebow because he's White and Christian" is a claim that only seems to make sense by starting from that conclusion and working backward.

I’m not sure what I just read....
Claiming that an ex-football player who hasn't played in a regular season game since 2012 and was cut during the preseason in his two most recent comeback attempts probably isn't going to make the main roster this time either isn't hate.
Also, giving someone a job, promoting him, and paying him a lot of money is weird way to treat someone you hate.
Feel free to disagree.

I think Tim is a great guy, but I also feel he won’t make the team if Urban is smart..... if he does make the team Urban could have a mutiny on his hands.,...

The fact that you dumb shits have such a persecution complex that you've turned Tebow trying to make the cut w/the Jags into something about politics and religion is pathetic.

I like Tebow, I just think he is too old and has been out of the game too long to make the team.

why was he promoted as one of the faces of the SEC Network when it launched?
The same reason the Longhorn Network employs Ricky Williams.

I am a white male Chirstian conservative. But I’m tired of hearing about Tebow. I was just as tired of it when he was a mediocre QB in Denver, a backup in New York and a minor-league baseball player. The media enjoys the clicks. And everything becomes about him when in reality he is a non-story. At this stage of his career, I don’t think the guy can play dead in a western.

Feels like I just got in a time machine and transported back to 2011.
Media coverage and outrage over Tebow.
Debate about whether he'll play, and if he does whether he'll succeed.
Citing jersey sale numbers.
Time is a flat circle. It's sort of incredible, really.
