Bananas and monkeys when you’re the mostly white rural school playing the mostly black inter county rival is a recipe for being called out. It’s tone deaf and dumb on Gordo’s part, even if many on here will defend it.

Or maybe, just maybe, it is easier to find bananas and monkey toys/costumes at a store along with being cheaper than buying a freaking lion or elephants head? Some of you look for the offensive everywhere.

It's soft, but the prominent monkey/banana theme makes you question the intent.

Those banana costumes are extremely common as are plush monkeys. Odds are it’s just what those kids already owned. Probably the same reason there’s a kid in one of those extremely common horse heads which isn’t safari either.

If it was, then a formal apology from the school would be expected

The school already apologized just because people interpreted it as offensive.

And some of you refuse to acknowledge that something is absolutely considered racist.

To watch adults play dumb and go “I dunno what’s wrong” explains why the kids grow up to be dumb and out of touch with reality. We did stupid shite in school and we knew it was dumb but the adults told us it was wrong and held us accountable. Now the adults in the room enable by not telling the kids not to do it.

Safari themed, dress as a banana? It’s pretty obvious to anyone who can think freely and not get their marching orders from political beliefs or agendas.

Yeah some people being intentionally obtuse… of course this could be interpreted as racist

My question would be were the kids from Pickens offended or adults in the area

It said safari and animal theme to be fair. The bananas are dumb, but ever since family guy did Peanut Butter Jelly Time, those costumes have been mainstays. Tangentially involved, but Occam's Razor would say dumb kids grabbing an outfit they already had that has something to do with a common animal is a better argument than "kid is racist so he wears a banana".

I don't go through life being a snowflake and look to get offended by everything. Maybe the other team should have used this supposed "racist theme" as bulletin board material and not be a bunch of flaming vaginas and handled this on the field. But I am sure they will now need therapy because whitey used a banana as a phone and some girl grabbed her monkey toy she had since she was 2 hanging around her neck.

Again, dressing as a banana for a safari/animal theme when you’re playing a mostly black school. Intent seems pretty clear.

I will say this - I graduated from a mostly white school and we played Central-Tuscaloosa, a mostly black school. It was referred to as “the jungle” when we played there by many at my school. I can’t imagine what would’ve happened had kids dressed as bananas for those games.

It’s my understanding that the people in the picture aren’t even students of the school, it was just a picture posted by the cheer team to essentially promote the dress up day, and I suppose give an example of what to wear.

Such a dog shite argument. Anything can be considered racist if we are willing to throw the net out far enough. Hell, I bet nets were used to capture slaves, so that phrase should be cancelled. Idiots getting up in arms about stuff like this pisses me off, because now every time I read a story about someone being "racist", I run it through a filter of "is it actually racist or is it someone projecting". Actual racist shitheads are harder to find because everything is racist nowadays.

Not everything - but a bunch of white kids thinking monkeys and bananas is the appropriate theme in this situation - yeah, it’s easy to see it as being racist. I say that as someone who hates cancel culture.

We just are not going to agree on this topic, and that's fine, have a nice day.

Doesn't sound worth it to congregate at night if this was enough to set them off...Probably would've just resulted in some more Worldstar clps and fatigue memes.
