Fans who care about the outcome want reviews, want the fouls called want their team to call TO and stop the clock at the end when they need to.

Fans who care about the entertainment product don’t want that.

On a somewhat related tangent, there are some fans out there who think the NBA needs to call things the way they are in high school and college and not the other way around. Things that are good and entertaining in the NBA aren’t allowed at lower levels and it’s hurting the sport

Quarter length isn’t going to change the fact that players don’t play, there are too many games,

All of this. You go to a regular season game and the effort level is basically zero until the fourth quarter. There are too many games and as such the players don't value each game.

The season could literally start on Christmas Day and be so much better.

He might as well switch to the International Paint if he wants to switch to International clock rules.

This Commissioner and the NBA has lost the American public.

Remember this?

I don't think the NBA has advertised this in 20 years for fear of false advertising.

Remove the 3 pt line. That would fix the game.
This or change the scoring system so that threes are worth four and regular field goals are worth three points. The math is wrong and teams have been gaming the system and the game has been bastardized as a result.

Why would the players agree to less pay? And they would have to agree to it

It would have to be collectively bargained. Owners might have to give up something else, but it's a fair concept.

quote:

It’s like your boss asking you to take half pay on PTO or Sick leave. Would you agree to just change your contract for that?

Professional sports are not a normal job. They do not receive PTO, sick time, or vacation. They only work half the year. As an entertainer, their work is centered on performance. If they don't perform, then they shouldn't receive the same rate of pay.

quote:

would you agree to half paying you suffer a very common work place injury?

I do not know if you are familiar with disability. But if you are out for a significant amount of time, you do not receive the same rate of pay. Long term disability is even less. These are designed.

blow out an ACL in the preseason and you’re our 10-25 mill

Yes. You can't play. People pay to watch you play. No play, no product.

If a band cancels a concert, do they still get paid? If an actor has to pull out of a movie, do they still get paid?

So they'll make the game 8 minutes shorter, but have the same number of ads
It's cute that you think there will be the same amount

Ads would markedly increase, and the game's TV runtime will ultimately stay the same.

Less sport, more ads

Silver's an awful commissioner who's only been "successful" by riding on the coattails of David Stern and the league that he built.

1. Reduce fouls from 6 to 5. Forces the officials to call less fouls and allow more defense.
2. Move three point line back another foot. Force the action inside.
