Prime Rickey Henderson would’ve had 300 steals in a season

Probably not, but he was probably the best to do it.

Doesn't mean Acuna isn't elite. Look at the drop off of stolen bases #'s wise across the league as of today. Here's the top 10. It's cut in half when you get to just #10. All these guys have the same opportunities as him with the new rules. He's just that much better than everyone else at it.

The amount of people bitching about this is truly hilarious. Bunch of jelly cry babies. Dude just put up a 40/70 season, which btw go look a month back or so and no one believed he would get to 40 home runs Acuna has been absolutely dominant since mid august. He is your MVP. The Braves are the best team in baseball. The Braves are the best run organization in baseball. No one who matters on our team is going anywhere anytime soon except maybe Fried. Go cry about it on Reddit baseball with the other figs TD is Braves country

Then why doesn’t that same impact happen across the board. For say Randy Arozerena?

Successful stolen bases as a percent of attempts is at a record high across the MLB this season, not very hard to figure out

What are Acuna's successful attempts compared to previous years?

So take the top 3

He is 5 bases better than number 2 and 19 better than number 3

Rickey was 52 better than number 2 and 62 better than number 3 in 1982

correct. It’s easier to steal bases under the new rule

Who is claiming Acuna is a better base stealer than Henderson? Nice straw man you’ve constructed there.

I think it’s just showing he didn’t statistically blow out the other top base stealers this year so maybe what he did was more about the rule change and less about his improvement

exactly. He still has a great season, but it’s more equivalent to a 40/40 or 40/50 season than a 40/70 season

Nobody pays attention to baseball stats anymore. The game is a joke now.

I wouldn't really know because my team had such a dominant season that we don't really have to concern ourselves with individual outcomes like that.

2023

100% of the top 10 had 30 or more stolen bases and 60% had 40 or more

2022

60% of the top 10 had 30 or more stolen bases and only 10% had 40 or more

That’s pretty definitive proof the rule change made a material difference.

How many of his steals came after the pitcher ran out of pickoff attempts?

Not relevant. Once you are limited there are now counts that are good to steal on but may not be worth the throw so the pitcher has to take a chance. The new rule essentially penalizes a pitcher for every throw over, every step off etc, because it imposes a limitation later on.

The rule was put into effect specifically to increase bases stolen and the attempts.

No stolen base metrics are legit now. MLB deliberately inflated these with the rule change.
