HB2 forbids state courts from hearing any discrimination claims at all.

So, if you get fired because you are black, white, Hispanic, Asian, female, male, whatever – you have to hire a federal lawyer and go to federal court.

So, if your wife gets paid $9 an hour to do a job a guy with 2 years less experience got paid $20, you have to hire a federal lawyer and go to federal court.

Pretty sure this isn't true.

In July they repealed that portion of the law. But you can still be fired over your sexual orientation or gender identity and you can't sue.

But when the DOJ said wait a minute, they dropped the workplace discrimination based on race, religion, and age REAL QUICK.

Regardless, it's still a bullshite law that wasn't necessary in the first place.

My issue with it all is the hypocrisy of the ACC. Will they now move their entire headquarters out of North Carolina? Of course they won't. Will they stop taking in money from sporting events held at UNC, Duke, Wake, and State? Of course they won't.

Also hoping all of the people who have bought tickets (including myself) to the ACC Championship game are given the option for a refund at the very least. Pretty sure the vast majority of tickets have been bought up by UNC/Clemson fans and now with the site most likely moving to Florida or New York, many of these fans might not be able to travel now if their teams make it.

After reading it, as a proponent of conservative government, I oppose it on the basis that it is an overreach of state government power. It neuters the power of local municipalities in the area of labor.

I agree, and I'm glad GA didn't pass one.

In an ideal world, these laws would be rejected by everyone, with conservatives nonetheless rejecting the insanely irrational characterization of these laws by the left/media.

It's tough, because a lot of smart conservatives get trapped into just going along with the ridiculousness of the left/media because they didn't support the law. Which, of course, just furthers this country's descent into absolute mania of political correctness and threat exaggeration.

In the end, this is about one half of our country being unwilling to treat a disorder as such, and the other half obsessing about a minuscule percentage of the population they rarely if ever encounter.

Greensboro was selected as a host site for the 2017 Men's NCAA Tournament, but it has since been removed, due to HB2.

Any word on potential sites to replace it? New Orleans would be cool, but the Pelicans have home games that conflict with the scheduled dates.

Absolutely right..we live in a world where you aren't allowed to have the "wrong" opinion. Everything has become partisan, even if it's bad for one or both sides of the argument.

To me, I thought the law was overreach by the state, simply because I think Charlotte should have the ability to impose its own laws within city limits, so long as they don't violate the state or U.S. Constitution. That's what they're there for, in my opinion.

Instead, we're spending millions of dollars here in North Carolina over where people use the bathroom in public. I just want it to go away. But I don't necessarily believe elected a bunch of Democrats to do so is the best move, either.

That's what I don't understand about it being passed in the first place. McCrory was the mayor here, so it's not like he doesn't understand that Charlotte is going to be more progressive than the rest of the state.

As someone who probably identifies with the Republicans on most issues (social issues aside), I don't like the state telling the city what to do.

Charlotte is a progressive city and wanted nothing to do with the law yet they're the ones getting punished.

While I disagree with the law, the NCAA's reaction is typical irrational political correctness, not some natural market response (although increasingly, the "market" is dictated by ideological decisions of producers).

Nailed it. Some administrator who is either trying to make a political point or avoid a mild PR hassle isn't indicative of "the market."

I dunno. This issue fell off the radar until the NBA, NCAA, and ACC poked the bear and put it back in the news.

One of the biggest things wrong with this type of grandstanding is that every non-boycott is also a political statement. If you boycott NC because of HB2 you must, by extension, fully endorse the laws of every state where you hold an event. Otherwise you'd boycott them too.

Yep, that's what's amazing. They're creating the illusion of market demand, not responding to it.

This is all pretty stupid since the Governor is going to be replaced in a few months. But sure, lets all grandstand over an issue that's hot right now in order to pat ourselves on the back and ignore real problems.

The timing of the announcements (NCAA/ACC) is purely political and intended to motivate voters for the upcoming election. Their decisions could have been made two months ago when the Governor and State Legislature left Raleigh and ended the 2016 legislative session without addressing the law.

Are you okay with the city dictating to you and every private business within its jurisdiction how to socially operate your restrooms?

Another reason the NCAA is stupid. They're screwing people who agree with them.
