He can refuse to sign and if he doesn't play a single snap all year, he goes back into the draft the following year.

Pretty sure thats not how it works. I think they have his rights for a certain amount of time and it is longer than a year.

the article in OP says SD holds his rights until the beginning of the 2017 draft. if he isn't signed before the draft begins then he'll be re-entered into the draft

I did not. I did read something about a year ago that said the latest CBA had changed that provision, but I guess the time frame remained the same they just changed some of the language.

What happens if Bosa says "frick it, I'm not playing for the Chargers

He gets traded to the Giants where he leads the league in sacks and wins a super bowl.

There has to be a reason Archie wouldn't let Eli play for the Chargers even when drafted by them.

Bosa has entitled douche written all over him

Having the offset language OR the upfront signing bonus is extremely common for top 5 picks. Goff and Ramsey got both. Bosa is asking for just one. He's not asking for a bigger contract.

Anyone that puts this on Bosa's camp is a moron.

Both are common, although the spread of bonus payments is less common. The Chargers insist on it though.

The bonus issue is they want to give him half of his bonus now and half in March (which would move that half into the official 2017 season).

He'll still get every $ of the bonus they've agreed to (I think its something like $9M now and another $8 or 9M in March).

They are holding out over 7 months.

7 months of $18 million working for you equals a lot more than 7 months of $9 million working for you + $9 million more in 7 months.

The reason I thought this didn't work was because it has to be approved by the league and they don't barring certain circumstances

Last year the story was Lael was going to sit out the year and refuse to sign anywhere to re enter the draft, but the NFL told them they would not allow him to re enter the draft the next season.

The Chargers are a Mickey Mouse organization. Pay the guy his money, don't try and nickel and dime him.

Bosa is forced to play for the team that drafts him, and forced to sign a contract that is pre determined by the league, and when he tries to bargain the one part of the contract that he can, it makes him selfish

He can go to the CFL is he doesn't like it.

Or (a) hold out and get what he wants or (b) sit out a year and get re-drafted in 2017

Condon wants both in the contract, so its all on Bosas camp

The Chargers dont have the cash to pay him his entire bonus with the amount of money they have to spend on a the new stadium issue
