It would be nice if we had a MLB player that posted on here so that we could get the player perspective.

I thought this part might be bigger...

Beer consumption also will be cut off on the last leg of road trips, he said.

But I guess if it's screwing with your team then you have to go there. Kind of like assessing curfews in college when your team screws up the freedom.

this won't work FWIW

they'll just GTFO of the locker room and go drink alone

isn't that worse? drinking beer in the locker room develops team chemistry IMO

read the bad guys won if you don't think so

It's such bull that they fired Francona. Why didn't Belichick get the axe as well?

This is an outrage. I'm shocked and chagrined, mortified and stupified. You have to feel sorry for these MLB guys. Where does it stop? First amphetamines, then steriods, now beer? What's next, no more banging groupies? This is what it must have been like in Salem during the witch trials.

I hope this means more interaction with the fans.

this isn't the big deal it sounds like. Most don't really have them at home because players drive home after the game so it's a liability

on the road you can 'ban' it, but it's still available just not displayed I guess. This is sort of an appearances rule, but after last year, one that I understand. In terms of clubhouse bonding, it makes sense in theory, but things don't really work that way anymore so it's not much of an issue.

So what you're saying is if josh beckett wants a beer in the 5th inning he'll find a way.

He's a grown man so if he wants one, he'll find himself one. But a rule like this makes something like that really frowned upon so it's not something that will happen.

Nats cant have any beer in the clubhouse period. Thought it was MLB wide.

it may be but I don't care enough to know the rule to be honest.

Also, the last leg of a roadtrip thing is common (which refers to the flight back to your home city) because players drive home from the airport.

I care enough about the rule because if the nats can have some miller lites then you are sure as shite understanding that i want to be there giving it to them!

"Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz endorsed Valentine's decision.

"We're not here to drink," he told reporters. "We're here to play baseball. It ain't a bar."

The St. Louis Cardinals banned alcohol in their clubhouse in 2007, five days after pitcher Josh Hancock, who played briefly for the Red Sox, died in an alcohol-related automobile accident.

Both the New York Mets and Yankees have banned alcohol from their clubhouses."

How often do you see teammates drinking in the clubhouse?
