The following line from that link is a bit unclear:

"Beer consumption also will be cut off on the last leg of road trips, he said."

Another Boston site makes it clear that it is referring to players drinking on the flight home from a road trip, so that players will not be driving themselves home possibly above the legal limit.

At first blush I thought well that sucks, but then I thought "Well I have never been able to drink at work" so frick 'em.

To be honest, I'm a huge Red Sox fan, and I thought that story was over blown. The Globe has a nasty habit of thinking every collapse is the result of some sinister back room shite, when in reality sometimes teams just don't click.

when there's smoke like that- there's always fire. Some things get lost in translation because the baseball workplace isn't really like any other, but typically when papers go nuts like that, it's because they've got something they know.
