Dumb hyperbole like Kobe is the GOAT?

Not taking anything away from either because both are great plays, but anyone with Willie Mays' speed could make that catch just like anyone faster than Edmonds would have made that catch standing up.

Mays caught that ball in black and white! No way it was as good as the full-color catch by Edmonds!

wasn't Willie May's catch in the World Series or something? That's what makes it great.
Like Kirk Gibson's homer, yea it was awesome on it's own but the situation is what makes it an all time great

Sarcasm. Learn to recognize it.

My question was to everyone in general, not specifically you.
Context clues, learn to use them

Anyone who doesn't know Mays' catch came in the World Series is too stupid to live. Dirt. Cover yourself with it.

Great speed doesn't necessarily equal great range. Juan Pierre has always had great speed, but was never a great defensive CF. Andruw Jones remained an elite defensive CF even after his speed declined early in his career. What set Mays and Jones apart were their abilities to read and judge fly balls off the bat.

This was my favorite catch from last year. It wasn't that fancy, but I love the reactions of Trout and Weaver.

I saw that live and it was awesome

This has always been one of my favorites. Gary Matthews Jr. over the wall catch.
Nice addition BeYou. I was thinking about this catch earlier. Way more difficult than WM.

I know I'm 4 pages late to this party, but I just wanted to point out that every single word in the OP is dead on balls accurate.
Thank you kindly and I love your work in the LSU game threads. Nice My Cousin Vinny quote as well.

People don't understand that it isn't all that hard to spin and throw. Any ball player with a good arm has thrown enough to pretty much know where the ball is going no matter if he spins eight times then throws. It's just something that comes with throwing a million times in ones life. It does add to the play though. As for the play itself...it was awesome. But not ridiculously hard for a really good center fielder. Top 10 or 20...sure. But there have been much better plays.
