They played twice and Shaq outplayed him at the PMAC. Shaq had 25pts, 12 Rebs and 7 blocks to Laettner’s 22pts and 11 Rebs. The year before at Cameron Shaq got into foul trouble very early, because of course he did it was at Duke, only played 20 something minutes, had 15points, 10rebs and 4 blocks. Laettner had 24 and 10 in that one.

I don’t think you understand the assignment. The original Dream Team wasn’t in their prime.

I don't get why people get so bothered by Laettner getting on over Shaq. He was the best player in college at the time, which is what USA Basketball wanted. It's not like if Shaq were on the team, he would have done anything considering every player on that team was an all time NBA player at the time the team was assembled. Hell Laettner was the best NCAA player, and he is a sidenote on this team.

Okay. We’re over it.

Ok. And yet look how dominant they were…. And could have even been more dominant had they played a full game at full speed.

Everyone besides Bird and Magic was in their prime.

1996 is also a really gifted roster and 1994 crushed people despite not having the same firepower.

And 2008 had a far tougher task and did great. I would say 2012 also had a great collection of talent.

But 1992 didn’t have a bunch of geriatrics, just Bird (and Magic on his early round of HIV meds).

The dream team didn’t even need Magic and Bird to put up big numbers on the court. Those two guys, and Barkley, talked enough shite and held everyone else accountable for their entire run. The only other player in the world who could have played on that team was Isiah Thomas. Thomas being excluded is another topic altogether.

There’s an argument for Shaq over Leattner, but does it really matter? The alphas on that team basically crushed Leattner, and he was never the same player. Shaq probably wouldn’t have been crushed in the same way, but the ultimate on-court results would have been the same.

They chose wisely. No Jordan if they take Thomas. And there was zero chance of that.

Clown take on that thread. The NBA was infinitely more watchable back in the gap.

I can’t remember the last full game I watched. Maybe when I was at the playoff win against the Warriors.
