UCF is currently #12 which is considerably higher at this point of the season than where they were ranked last year, which i think is super important. Also, this year, they have a stronger AAC to tout. Cincinnati is currently (5-0) and will most likely be at least 9-1 and ranked heading into a game against UCF. They also have USF who is currently (4-0) and will most likely be at least 10-1 and ranked heading into a game against UCF. Both of those games would be at the end of the season (right when they would need the boost). With the way things ended last year, assuming they would win those big games, would the committee leave them out again?

UCF remaining schedule:

SMU (2-3) W
@Memphis (3-2) W
@ECU (2-2) W
Temple (2-3) W
Navy (2-2) W
Cincinnati (5-0) ?
@USF (4-0) ?

AAC Championship ?

This is why the playoffs need to be 8 teams, consisting of the five P5 champions and three at large teams.

I hope an opening is created for them. Any system where winning every game in front of you for two straight years does not get you a shot at a championship is a disaster.

They're also blowing out these teams like a great team should.

Provided Notre Dame wins out, UCF does not make it.

Last year shouldn’t really matter although the committee is human so it might.

4 undefeated teams from power 5/Notre Dame would definitely keep them out. They wouldn’t have a space in a scenario like:

SEC champ 13-0
Big 10 champ 13-0
ACC champ 13-0
Notre Dame 13-0

The real question is whether they get in over a one loss power 5 champ. Are they getting in over 1 loss conference champ Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Oklahoma, etc?

I don't have a problem with undefeated teams getting in over UCF, but give me UCF over one loss teams from the ACC or Pac-12, and maybe other conferences.

There is no doubt UCF's schedule lacks the marquis wins, but if they keep winning by 20+ they deserve a crack.

I think 6 is more likely with the 5 champs an 1 at large. Top 2 seeds get a bye in the first round.

They dont have a chance and it's a shame. We have a system that parades the idea of UCF being in the same classification as Alabama, yet UCF can go undefeated two straight years and not even get a shot.

Spare me the scheduling shite. I was on that horse for many years with the Boise State stuff. They played their schedule and have dominated everyone in their path. Either let them in, or split the G5 and P5 up.

But their schedule would set them up perfectly at the end with 3 high profile games. Cincinnati and USF will both be ranked fairly high by the time those games come. That would be the ammunition UCF would need at the precise time. I think because they’ve started out being ranked considerably higher this season, they get in over a 1 loss P5 champion. Going to be interesting to see how it unfolds.

If they look really impressive in those last 3 tough games (including AAC championship) I say let them in over 1 loss Clemson. Not like the ACC is any tougher than the AAC this year

It has been 10 yrs since hawaii vs georgia. Maybe time for a refresher. But it would be better than ND vs Bama in Miami...that was a joke and anyone with a brain saw that that was a forced matchup

(Obligatory...Auburn, you had ONE job to do)

Why not mention Utah-Bama, Boise-Oklahoma or UCF-Auburn???

Could have even mentioned TCU-Wisconsin

Just because a team plays in a smaller conference it doesn’t mean they aren’t one of the four best, scheduling is also difficult and I don’t think you should totally discredit a team
Because they don’t have a rich athletic department.

They’re gonna need some help. If Notre Dame, Ohio State, one of the Big 13, and one of the SEC schools stay unbeaten then UCF is out. Those two at the end being unbeaten and top 20 or so at least would be huge for them

They have no chance of getting in.

One might disagree with that, but it is nonetheless reality.

Their only chance is to schedule a “Top10” OOC game, and win it. And they don’t have that on their schedule this year.

Boise has this issue too

Problem is, none of the top 10 teams want to schedule them because they might actually win and make them look bad. It’s a catch 22 due to our system

My personal thoughts
What I want: a 16 team play off with all 10 conference champions plus 6 at large.

What is actually likely to happen: 8 team play off with p5 champions, highest ranked g5 team and 2 at large

Or split FBS and have the lowest conference move to G5 and the highest conference move to P5, but would require everyone to be in a conference

The big thing is that right now there is no value in playing big OOC games. If you lose, you just knocked yourself out of the playoff. If you win, it might get you a higher rank in the playoff but that’s it. It’s much better scheduling to have cupcakes (case in point OU at OSU last year. OSU won the B1G but had 2 losses, one of them to OU. Had they scheduled Akron or similar instead they would have gone to the playoff)

That is the biggest issue I have with the system. Schedules are made years in advance. You basically punish a team for not winning the lottery. That’s nit even including that the better teams don’t want to schedule the better mid majors.
