Can someone explain to me WHY it is a foregone conclusion that if OU beats OSU they will finish higher than Oregon?

I mean, I know the voters will "want" to have OU finish higher, and thus rank them higher. But it seems like it is a bunch of group think. Media and fans are all saying OU will finish higher(just because they presume this), and the voters are catching on and will certainly make it so. Seems unfortunate.

OU losing to TT is so horrid, and Oregon losing to LSU so early in the season looks pretty good.

I just don't see any reason other than the voters favor OU for no real apparent reason.

Can Oregon work the clock? If they start with their usual 3and outs they could let Stanford back in this.

1. rematch factor
2. pollsters love fricking OU, so they'd be the team

I was wondering this too. No excuse since it's their home field and they should be used to it.

Why is this so? It seems like OU and Texas are year in and year out ranked so high in pre-season polls, and then OU is always forced back up in the rankings late in the season despite losing a game(s).

It just seems like none of these voters are voting objectively and are just going on the OU "name"

I wonder how it will be if OU beats OSU and is ranked 2nd in the polls, and Oregon is ranked 3rd in the polls. How much ground can Oregon make up in the computers.

But I doubt the voters allow that to even happen. They would purposefully rank Oregon below Alabama even(down to 4th), just to avoid the rematch like you said.

if you remove the rematch teams, you're left with

OU/OSU/Stanford

OU/OSU will have a winner

Stanford will have lost to Oregon

so it's the OU/OSU winner for reasons basically being they're "disinterested"

OU being OU just makes it easier

Only a 2 score game with an entire quarter left to go. Stanford can afford to give up a FG even.

But that being said, Stanford's defense gives you no confidence they will be able to stop Oregon's offense.

Oregon's only shot is the human polls, OU will be ahead in the computers.

That's all there is to it. If you understand that then idk why you're still confused, the only reason why OU could make it is because they won't allow a rematch especially how they happened (LSU-Oregon wasn't close and Bama lost at home). Heck Michigan lost at 3 on the road a few years back and they weren't given another shot.
I initially thought Boise would finally get the nod over Bama (rematch), Oregon (rematch), OU (ugly loss); but them losing today opened the door for OU.

So after this game, Oregon beating Stanford, how do you see the rankings shaping up?

1. LSU, 2. OSU, 3. Bama, 4.?, 5.?

Oregon would have to hop OU for the 4th spot after beating such a high ranked team in Stanford right?

It's just crazy how everyone knows that all will be "sorted out" come the final week, that somehow OU will hop over Bama, and Oregon after defeating OSU.

Because I would assume quite a few media/voters alike would all bring up the "it was the 1st week debate." And even though the game wasn't close, as most of us know, that game would be such a long time ago some people would only look to the scoreboard and see it was just an 13 point loss.

Thanks for that. I just figured that OU losing to TT who keeps on losing would extremely hurt their numbers, and that Oregon losing to the #1 ranked team in LSU wouldn't hurt them all too much. And that their best victories would be Oregon over the at the time #4 and OU over the #2 at the time OSU isn't too much of a gap...

On a side note, we've somehow escaped having Boise and other small schools making the BCSCG by having 2 big schools undefeated, but have had to hear that debate on whether or not those small schools deserve a shot. Now after this season it looks like we will have a new debate on rematches, since Bama and Oregon could both have a good enough resume to make an argument for getting in over OU.
