racy McGrady and 'greatest' shouldn't even be in the same sentence.
4th GREATEST scorer in NBA playoff history
30.3 PER in 02-03 top 15 greatest individual seasons in the history of the NBA. only Wilt, MJ, The Admiral, and Shaq have had better years

Boom, stay out of this thread until you learn how to root for your team and not the Rockets.

His TEAM has not won a playoff series, no.
Chris Pauls TEAM is 2-10 vs Deron Williams, does that mean Williams is a better player?

No, but he has won a series so.
CP3 > McGrady.
The rockets are actually better without McGrady.

you are probably the same fan who thought they were better without yao last year.
they are better without an injured mcgrady, any nba team who has depth would be better off without an injured player trying to play.

I don't know they look pretty dang good without him. I think McGrady's days in Houston are going to be ending before long. He's not the present or the future. He's simply the past.

Thats a horrible example.
2 year NFL player
6 years in the NBA
No it isn't. People are talking up LeBron's 3-4 year run he's had recently, not all 6 as to why he's worthy at this early stage. AD had two great seasons already, so it's comparable, especially since AD's league is harder to stay healthy in.

Well, what else do you base it on?
again, its not the top 50 players with the best stats or championships
But basically every player on the list or up for consideration has played a substantial amount of basketball. If LeBron never plays again, people will look at 3-4 seasons of great play, but nothing to show for it. Nothing can be said for longevity? You can't group a kid who has been spectacular for a few years in with guys who have been spectacular for decades. LeBron needs a few more seasons of this to be on the list. It's not just greatest players skill wise, but something that you can statistically back up. You could say, "well LeBron was amazing for 3-4 years", but that's not enough to hang with guys who have been great for 10-15 years. When it comes down to it, you have guys from all different eras of basketball in the top 50. At the end of the day, you have to have something factual to back up your claim other than could's and will's. Having a few great statistical seasons doesn't match up.

in nearly 6 years, he's been one of the best to EVER player the game.
If the 50 greatest was based on 6 years, LeBron would be in the top 5. It's based on career, and his hasn't been long enough YET.

To some people it does

It's based on being great. There is no time table set as far as criteria.

Yes, there is. When guys like Hal Greer have 9,000 more points that LeBron, it tells you that he isn't quite ready for it yet. The list is based on accomplishments, because that's what solidifies greatness and transcends time and eras of basketball.
If they actually expanded the NBA 50 this year, there's a few guys that would make it. Guys like LeBron, Wade, Howard, CP3 would need a few more years, but all look like locks.

false
the others wold have to wait, Lebron, no. He is one of the greatest ever. you're being naive

if you took lebron's best 4 years, and compared them statistically to the best 4 years of every hall of famer, lebron would be top 10.
man. just read this. and in case you just feel like being ignorant now.
LINK
Lebron is ALREADY statistically the 11th best SF of all time in just 6 years. And it said he would pass into 10th before the season is over.
Does the 10th best SF of all time make it into the top 62 players of all time? (5 spots on the floor/62 places...) hmmm...

I didn't know the 50 greatest was based on 4 years, my bad.

That list also has Dominque Wilkins, Paul Pierce, and Adrian Dantely ahead of LeBron, none of which are in the top 50 greatest players. So, going by your list that ranks just those three guys ahead of LeBron, if he never played again, why would he go above those guys?

Iverson definitely deserves to be on the list. He basically carried the Sixers to the finals when he was there, and led the league in scoring a few times I believe...

Top 5 in League History in ppg I believe
Though his shooting percentage is rather dismal

I'd give A.I. the nod. Whatever you can say about his personality is overshadowed by how he plays it on the court for the most part. The guy flat out gives everything he's got, especially during his 1976ers days.
Off the top of my head, he shoots around 41% for his career, which is kind of weak, but not too bad for someone who is 6'1 and played as the only decent player on the team for years. Underrated defender, underrated passer, great scorer, MVP, Finals trip, multiple scoring titles and 1st team All-NBAs make him a shoe-in IMO.
